Andhra Pradesh Crowned Champions at 7th IDCA Women’s Deaf T10 Championship
Gurugram, March 2026: The 7th edition of the IDCA Women T-10 National Cricket Championship for Deaf 2026 concluded on a high note, with the Andhra Pradesh Women’s Team emerging as champions after a closely contested final against the Delhi Women’s Team. The tournament showcased remarkable talent, determination, and sportsmanship among deaf women cricketers from across the country.
In the final held on Friday, Andhra Pradesh opted to bat first and posted a competitive total of 73 for 4 in their allotted 10 overs. The Delhi Women’s Team responded strongly and kept the contest alive till the final moments but eventually fell short by just five runs, finishing at 68 for 4 in their 10 overs. The thrilling encounter highlighted the growing competitiveness and skill level in deaf women’s cricket in India.
The championship trophy was presented by former Indian cricketer Gursharan Singh, who attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest. He was joined by several distinguished guests, including Santosh Kumar Rai, Special Commissioner of Trade & Tax; Ompal; Dev Dutt, Head Coach of the Indian Deaf Men’s Team; Susheel Gupta; and Chander Prakash Kirodiwal, all of whom graced the occasion as guests of honour.
The tournament, hosted by the Haryana Deaf Cricket Association, was widely praised for its organisation and competitive spirit. Speaking on the occasion, Sumit Jain, President of the Indian Deaf Cricket Association, lauded the players for their outstanding performances.
“Over the past five days, we have witnessed exceptional talent, determination, and true sportsmanship displayed by our incredible deaf athletes. Both Andhra Pradesh and Delhi teams delivered commendable performances in the final,” he said, expressing gratitude to the chief guest and organisers for their support.
Jain also acknowledged the efforts of Dhiraj Kumar, President of the Haryana Deaf Cricket Association, for successfully hosting the event. He emphasised that such tournaments play a crucial role in encouraging more women, especially from the deaf community, to take up cricket professionally.
Special appreciation was extended to Cyrus Poonawalla for his continued support and encouragement towards promoting inclusive sports in India. Jain noted that the success of the championship was made possible through such sustained backing.
The Indian Deaf Cricket Association, supported by the Board of Control for Cricket in India and recognised by international governing bodies, organised the tournament as part of its ongoing efforts to develop and promote cricket among deaf athletes.
On the individual front, D. Kanthamma from Andhra Pradesh emerged as the star performer of the tournament. She was named Player of the Series and Best Batswoman, in addition to winning the Woman of the Match award in the final for her outstanding contributions. Priya Dixit from Uttar Pradesh was honoured as the Best Bowler of the Series for her impressive performances throughout the competition.
The successful conclusion of the championship marks another significant step towards inclusivity in Indian sports, providing a national platform for deaf women cricketers to shine and inspire future generations.
