AMMK Confident NDA Will Form Next Government in Tamil Nadu, Releases Manifesto
Chennai, March 2026 : Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) general secretary T. T. V. Dhinakaran on Saturday expressed confidence that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is well-positioned to form the next government in Tamil Nadu following the Assembly elections scheduled for April 23.
Speaking to the media, Dhinakaran pointed to growing anti-incumbency sentiment against the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government and said the political atmosphere is increasingly favourable for the NDA across the state. “The people of Tamil Nadu are looking for change. The prevailing conditions clearly indicate that the NDA will come to power,” he asserted, signalling optimism about the alliance’s prospects.
Dhinakaran welcomed the seat-sharing arrangement within the NDA, noting that the AMMK had been allotted all 11 constituencies it had requested. He described the allocation as satisfactory and highlighted it as a reflection of cooperative spirit among alliance partners.
On the same day, the AMMK released its 32-page election manifesto, detailing a comprehensive set of welfare and governance proposals aimed at addressing key issues across Tamil Nadu. Among the prominent proposals, the party urged the Centre to posthumously confer the Bharat Ratna on Forward Bloc leader U. Muthuramalinga Thevar and former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. It also called for naming the Madurai International Airport after Thevar, underscoring the party’s focus on honouring regional leaders.
The manifesto places strong emphasis on agrarian relief, including a waiver of crop loans taken by farmers from cooperative and nationalised banks. It also proposes expanding protected agricultural zones to safeguard cultivable land. Additionally, the AMMK has proposed legislation to ensure the time-bound delivery of public services, aiming to improve governance efficiency.
In the realm of social justice, the party has backed a caste-based survey while assuring that the existing 69 per cent reservation policy will remain intact. It also pledged to restore benefits for denotified communities and increase reservation for Muslims in education and employment to five per cent.
Education and infrastructure have been highlighted as key areas for development. The manifesto advocates returning education to the State List, expanding institutions such as Kendriya Vidyalayas and PM Shri schools, and establishing an AIIMS in northern Tamil Nadu and an IIT in the southern region.
Other proposals include the revival of the Legislative Council, restoration of the Old Pension Scheme, provision of free electricity up to 100 units per month, and reopening of Amma Unavagams across all panchayat unions, ensuring access to affordable meals.
Dhinakaran emphasised that the AMMK aims to present a “people-centric alternative” within the NDA’s broader vision for Tamil Nadu. Through its detailed manifesto and focused campaign, the party seeks to address the pressing concerns of farmers, students, and marginalised communities while offering a comprehensive blueprint for development, governance, and social welfare.
With elections just weeks away, AMMK’s assertive stance signals a determined effort to consolidate support and play a key role in shaping the next government in Tamil Nadu.
