HYDRAA Demolishes Illegal Constructions on Public Land in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, April 2026 : The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency launched a major anti-encroachment drive on Wednesday, demolishing several незаконally constructed buildings in Shastripuram under Rajendranagar mandal to reclaim valuable government land.

Acting under tight security, HYDRAA teams razed five under-construction G+3 buildings that had been illegally built on land originally designated for a public playground. In addition, two smaller structures were also demolished during the operation. However, authorities refrained from demolishing two buildings as families were currently residing in them.

The encroachments were found within a layout approved by the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority, where a total of 1,800 plots had been planned across 188 acres. Out of this, around 6,500 square yards had been officially earmarked for a playground. Officials revealed that encroachers had unlawfully occupied this designated space and sold plots using notarised documents, misleading buyers.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation had earlier issued notices to those responsible for the encroachments. The demolition drive was initiated after local residents lodged complaints, prompting a joint inspection by HYDRAA, GHMC, and revenue department officials. Investigations confirmed that the land had been illegally occupied and misused.

Officials estimated the value of the reclaimed land at around Rs 100 crore, underlining the significance of the operation. The drive is part of a broader initiative by HYDRAA to safeguard public assets and prevent the misuse of government land in rapidly expanding urban areas.

Established in 2024 by the Telangana government, HYDRAA has been actively working to protect lakes, parks, playgrounds, open spaces, and other public properties across Hyderabad. The agency has conducted multiple operations targeting encroachments, particularly on water bodies and environmentally sensitive zones.

According to HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath, the agency has so far reclaimed over 1,045 acres of encroached land, including lakes, roads, nalas, and parks, securing assets valued at approximately Rs 60,000 crore. He noted that the agency continues to receive numerous complaints from citizens regarding illegal layouts and encroachments on public land.

In a similar high-profile operation last year, HYDRAA cleared encroachments on five acres of land in Banjara Hills, reclaiming property worth nearly Rs 750 crore. Authorities said such actions will continue as part of efforts to preserve Hyderabad’s urban infrastructure and ensure lawful land use.
