Alana King’s Five-Wicket Haul Powers Australia to 3-0 ODI Series Sweep Over West Indies
St. Kitts, April 2026 : A superb bowling display by Alana King guided Australia to a dominant nine-wicket victory over the West Indies in the third ODI at Warner Park, sealing a comprehensive 3-0 series whitewash.
The leg-spinner produced one of the finest spells of her career, claiming 5 for 19—her second-best figures in One Day Internationals—leading Australia to bundle out the hosts for a modest 136. Her best remains the remarkable 7 for 18 against South Africa during last year’s World Cup.
After being put in to bat, the West Indies made a steady start, reaching 49 for 1 in the Powerplay. However, their innings soon lost momentum as wickets began to fall at regular intervals. The middle order struggled against disciplined Australian bowling, and the hosts slumped to 78 for 5 by the 19th over.
The only significant contributions came from Realeanna Grimmond and Chinelle Henry, who added 37 runs for the sixth wicket. Grimmond’s dismissal in the 27th over triggered a collapse, as the lower order failed to offer resistance. Henry remained unbeaten on 42, but lacked support as the team was bowled out in 35.4 overs. Ashleigh Gardner also chipped in with two wickets to tighten Australia’s grip.
In response, Australia made light work of the chase. Openers Georgia Voll and Phoebe Litchfield laid a solid foundation with a brisk 50-run partnership. Voll was the only batter to fall, but that did little to slow the visitors’ momentum.
Litchfield continued her impressive form, remaining unbeaten on 68, while Ellyse Perry provided steady support with an unbeaten 33. The duo stitched together an unbroken 87-run stand to guide Australia home comfortably in just 19.4 overs, finishing the match with more than 30 overs to spare.
The emphatic win not only secured a clean sweep in the ODI series but also capped off a perfect Caribbean tour for Australia. The visitors had earlier dominated the T20I series as well, winning it 3-0 to complete a flawless run of six victories across formats.
Australia’s all-round performance—marked by clinical bowling, sharp fielding, and confident batting—highlighted their superiority throughout the tour. For the West Indies, the series exposed concerns in both batting consistency and middle-order stability, areas they will need to address ahead of future international assignments.
Brief Scores: West Indies 136 all-out in 35.4 overs (Chinelle Henry 42*, Hayley Matthews 34; Alana King 5-19, Ashleigh Gardner 2-29) lost to Australia 137/1 in 19.4 overs (Phoebe Litchfield 68*, Ellyse Perry 33*; Ashmini Munisar 1-35) by nine wickets.
