Rajasthan Royals Edge Gujarat Titans by 6 Runs in High-Scoring IPL 2026 Thriller
Ahmedabad, April 2026 : Rajasthan Royals held their nerve in a pulsating contest to defeat Gujarat Titans by six runs in the ninth match of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Rajasthan Royals posted a formidable total of 210/6 in their allotted 20 overs, riding on brilliant half-centuries from Dhruv Jurel and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Their composed yet aggressive knocks laid the foundation for a total that ultimately proved just enough in a thrilling finish.
Rajasthan got off to a flying start, thanks to an explosive opening partnership between Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The duo capitalised on some loose bowling early on, particularly targeting Mohammed Siraj with crisp strokeplay. Jaiswal looked in sublime touch, timing the ball beautifully through the covers and pulling short deliveries with authority, while Sooryavanshi provided valuable support with innovative hitting.
The Royals raced to 69 without loss in the powerplay, setting the tone for a big total. The breakthrough came when stand-in skipper Rashid Khan induced a mistimed shot from Sooryavanshi, who departed after a brisk 31 off 18 balls. Despite the wicket, Jaiswal continued to anchor the innings and brought up a fluent half-century off just 32 deliveries.
However, his innings was cut short soon after when Kagiso Rabada produced a sharp delivery to dismiss him for 55. Rajasthan briefly lost momentum with a couple of quick wickets, including Riyan Parag and Donovan Ferreira, but Jurel ensured that the scoring rate never dipped.
Coming in at a crucial juncture, Jurel initially steadied the innings with smart rotation of strike before unleashing an attacking display in the death overs. Displaying excellent awareness of the field and bowlers, he used the depth of the crease effectively against spinners and punished pace with powerful shots. He reached his fifty in the 17th over and then accelerated further, smashing boundaries and towering sixes, including a memorable hit off Prasidh Krishna.
Late contributions from Shimron Hetmyer and Ravindra Jadeja helped Rajasthan surge past the 200-run mark. Hetmyer’s quickfire 18 off just eight balls added crucial momentum before he was dismissed by a sharp catch from Siraj. Jurel’s superb innings finally ended in the last over when Siraj picked up his wicket, but by then Rajasthan had already posted a daunting total.
For Gujarat Titans, Rabada was the standout bowler, finishing with figures of 2 for 42, while Rashid Khan, Prasidh Krishna, and Ashok Sharma chipped in with one wicket each.
In reply, Gujarat Titans mounted a strong chase, led by an impressive knock from Sai Sudharsan, who top-scored with 73 off 44 balls. Despite his efforts and a late unbeaten cameo from Rabada, the Titans fell just short, finishing at 204/8 in their 20 overs.
The Rajasthan bowlers, led by Ravi Bishnoi, who claimed an excellent 4 for 41, held their nerve under pressure. Jofra Archer and the rest of the bowling unit executed their plans effectively in the death overs to restrict Gujarat’s charge.
The match turned out to be a high-scoring spectacle, showcasing explosive batting from both sides. However, Rajasthan’s disciplined bowling in the final overs proved decisive, sealing a memorable win in a closely fought encounter.
