Hezbollah Warns of Retaliation Over Israeli Violations Despite Ceasefire
Beirut, April 2026 : Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem has warned that the ongoing ceasefire with Israel must include a complete halt to hostilities, cautioning that the group will respond to any violations in southern Lebanon.
In a statement, Qassem stressed that a ceasefire cannot be one-sided, making it clear that Hezbollah would not tolerate continued aggression. “There is no ceasefire from one side only,” he said, adding that Hezbollah fighters would respond appropriately to any breaches.
Qassem outlined five key conditions that he said were essential for a lasting peace. These include a permanent cessation of hostilities across Lebanon, a full withdrawal of Israeli forces, the release of detainees, the return of displaced residents to their homes, and reconstruction efforts supported by Arab nations and the international community.
He also asserted that Hezbollah had not been defeated in the conflict and would continue its efforts toward what he described as Lebanon’s liberation and independence. At the same time, Qassem signaled openness to improving ties within the country, stating that Hezbollah is ready to begin “a new page” of cooperation with the Lebanese government. He emphasized the group’s willingness to work with state institutions to strengthen national unity and protect Lebanon’s sovereignty.
A 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon came into effect at midnight between Thursday and Friday local time, following an earlier announcement by US President Donald Trump. The truce was seen as a step toward reducing tensions after a period of heightened conflict along the border.
However, developments on the ground suggest that the situation remains fragile. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Saturday that it had carried out strikes against militants approaching a designated “Yellow Line,” which marks the northern boundary of a security zone established by Israel in southern Lebanon.
In addition, reports from the region indicate that Israeli forces have begun constructing a new military position near the village of Kfarchouba in the eastern sector of the border area. According to eyewitness accounts and a Lebanese security source, the operation involved heavy machinery, including bulldozers and excavators, supported by a Merkava tank.
The construction activity reportedly took place on a hill known locally as “Rbaa al-Teben,” located about 1.5 kilometers from the Lebanon-Israel demarcation line. The site, which includes olive groves and vineyards, is being developed with ground leveling, excavation, and the building of earth barriers, suggesting the establishment of a new military post linked administratively to Kfarchouba.
These developments have raised concerns about the durability of the ceasefire, with both sides maintaining a high level of alert. Hezbollah’s warning underscores the risk of renewed escalation if violations continue, even as diplomatic efforts seek to stabilize the region.
