Mumbai Indians Opt to Bat Against Sunrisers Hyderabad After Winning Toss in IPL 2026 Clash

Mumbai, April 2026 : Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat first against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 41 of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday. The high-stakes encounter saw both teams making key changes to their playing XIs as they looked to strengthen their combinations mid-season.

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya said the decision to bat first was influenced by the conditions. “It looks like a breezy evening and slightly cooler than usual. We don’t expect dew to play a big role, so the plan is to put up a strong total and then assess the situation,” he said. Pandya added that the team had taken time to reset mentally and focus on simplifying their approach after a challenging phase in the tournament.

The five-time champions made several changes to their lineup. Ryan Rickelton, Will Jacks, Robin Minz, and Trent Boult were brought into the side, while Quinton de Kock, Sherfane Rutherford, Shardul Thakur, and Krish Bhagat were left out. Pandya revealed that de Kock was unavailable due to a wrist issue, while Mitchell Santner missed out due to injury.

He also provided an update on senior batter Rohit Sharma, stating that he would need a few more games to regain full fitness. “Rohit is trying hard, but he is not at the level he would like to be. So he won’t be available for this match,” Pandya said, adding that he is focused on leading from the front and contributing to the team’s performance.

On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins said he would have preferred to bowl first, citing slight tackiness in the pitch. “The surface might behave differently, so it’s important to assess conditions quickly and adapt,” he noted. Cummins emphasized the importance of resetting expectations for each match and staying flexible in approach.

Sunrisers Hyderabad also made adjustments, bringing in Travis Head and Harsh Dubey in place of Aniket Verma and Shivang Kumar. Cummins highlighted the importance of maintaining confidence among bowlers, especially during tough phases. “It’s about backing them, sharing insights, and ensuring they stay confident,” he added.
