State-Level Survey Necessary for Single Women Policy: Minister of State Meghna Sakore-Bordikar

Mumbai, May 2026: Maharashtra Minister of State for Women and Child Development Meghna Sakore-Bordikar on Monday said that a state-level survey is necessary to formulate an effective policy addressing the various issues faced by single women across the state.

She also directed officials to make use of currently available survey data while framing the policy.

The directions were issued during a review meeting on the proposed Single Women Policy held under her chairmanship at the MSRDC office in Nirmal Bhavan. Detailed discussions were held on various aspects of the policy during the meeting.

Minister Sakore-Bordikar said that the policy should comprehensively address the social, economic and government scheme-related concerns of single women to make it more effective and inclusive. She suggested that more members should be added to the committee working on the policy framework.

She further pointed out that nearly 13 to 14 departments of the state government are connected with issues concerning single women. Therefore, she instructed officials to hold a joint meeting of all concerned departments and ensure coordinated implementation of the policy through inter-departmental cooperation.

The minister also directed that concrete measures be taken to ensure that single women can easily avail benefits under various government welfare schemes. She stressed the need for focused efforts towards their empowerment and instructed all related departments to work in close coordination while implementing the policy.
