Maharashtra Governor presents Fellowship to 50 young Nadaswaram musicians
Mumbai : Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan presented the fellowship grant of Rs.1 lakh each to 50 young Nadaswaram musicians at the Nadaswara Thiruvizha programme organised by the Sri Shanmukhananda Fine Arts & Sangeetha Sabha at Shanmukhananda Auditorium in Mumbai on Sun (1 Sept).
The Governor presented the Sangeetha Kala Vibhushan Lifetime Achievement Award to veteran Nadaswaram exponent Seshampatti Sri T. Sivalingam. The award carries a cash prize of Rs.2.5 lakh, a gold coated lamp, a Nadaswaram and a citation.
President of the Sabha Dr V Shankar, Vice President Dr V Rangaraj, Seshampatti T Sivalingam and Vice President of Shriram Finance Umesh Revankar were present.
According to Dr V Shankar, Nadaswaram, a non-brass acoustic instrument is slowly slipping into a dying art. The Sabha gives Sri Shanmukhananda Nadaswara Chakravarthi T N Raja Rathinam Pillai Fellowship in Nadaswaram to 50 young and promising Nadaswarm musicians with a view to preserve the musical instrument and support its musicians. The fellowship of Rs. 1 lakh is given for three years.
