Ration material will now be available only for the current month: Food Minister Rajput

According to the new instructions issued by the Government of India about food grains distributed under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, the time limit for distribution of ration materials to eligible families has been fixed from the 1st to the 31st of every month. Food, Civil and Consumer Protection Minister Shri Govind Singh Rajput has said that now the ration material will be available in the same month for which it is available. There will be no Carry Forward option. This arrangement has been started since August. In August, ration material was distributed to one crore 17 lakh 53 thousand eligible families. In the allocation of ration material for July, carry forward ration was also distributed to about 7 lakh 96 thousand families from August 1 to 15. Besides, a ration for August was also distributed to these families.

One Nation-One Ration Card

Minister Shri Rajput informed that in August, under the ‘One Nation-One Ration Card’ scheme, 3,644 families from other states in Madhya Pradesh and 34 thousand 667 families of the state in other states received ration, and 14 lakh 38 thousand 630 families received ration through inter-district portability. This month it is more compared to July.

Distribution of ration to eligible families in August

A well-planned action plan for the supply and distribution of ration material to eligible families within the time limit was prepared by holding a meeting of officials of the concerned departments under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection Smt. Rashmi Arun Shami at the state level and ration was distributed. According to the allocation for August 2024, in the districts where the availability of ration material was less, about 25 thousand 600 MT of wheat and rice was transported from other districts and stored at the supply centers. Ration material was distributed to the elderly consumers at their homes. E-KYC was done and ration material was delivered to physically challenged Shri Prahlad of Kharsod Khurd village, who resides 5 kilometers away from the village at his residence on August 31.

Transportation to 27,826 shops through Mukhya Mantri Yuva Annadoot Yojana

Wheat 1.12 lakh MT, rice 1.69 lakh MT, salt 0.10 lakh MT, and sugar 0.12 lakh MT were transported from 252 supply centers of the state at 27 thousand 826 fair price shops for the month of August through the transporters of ‘Mukhya Mantri Yuva Annadoot Yojana. In those districts where there was a delay in the supply of ration material from the distribution centers to the fair price shops, the ration material was transported through additional vehicles.

State level monitoring

Monitoring of the supply of ration material at fair price shops and distribution to eligible families was done at the state level through video conference twice a week. Ration material was supplied and distributed even on government holidays. District-wise officers were put on duty to review the lifting and distribution of ration material at the Directorate of Food, Bhopal level.

Names of those who missed ration for 6 months displayed

The list of names of about 1 lakh 74 thousand families who had not been receiving ration for the last 6 months, was displayed at fair price shops for them to receive ration in August. SMSes were sent from the state level to 13 lakh 33 thousand 470 eligible families who did not receive ration from fair price shops till 25th August. Complaints received on the telephone number 0755-2551475 of the control room set up at the state level were also resolved promptly. Publicity was done to inform eligible families to avail of ration material for August in the same month.

Benefits from new ration distribution system

Food Minister Shri Rajput said that through the new ration distribution system, eligible families received ration in the month of August itself. They need to wait till the next month to get ration. Due to the closure of ration distribution in the coming month (carry forward), irregularities in ration distribution from fair price shops (giving 1 month’s ration material instead of 2 months) have been stopped. Monthly payment of the grant amount will be made on the quantity of ration material distributed by the Government of India to Madhya Pradesh State Civil Supplies Corporation (MPSCSC). Distribution of ration material in the allotted month will facilitate storage of ration material for the coming month at fair-price shops.
