NDA Set to Sweep All Four Rajya Sabha Seats in Andhra Pradesh

Amaravati, May 2026 : The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Andhra Pradesh is poised to secure all four Rajya Sabha seats from the state that are scheduled to go to polls on June 18, backed by its commanding majority in the State Legislative Assembly.

The alliance, led by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), is expected to divide the seats among its partners, with the TDP likely to retain two seats while allocating one seat each to its allies — the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Jana Sena Party (JSP).

The Election Commission of India on Friday announced the schedule for elections to 24 Rajya Sabha seats across 10 states, including Andhra Pradesh. The official notification for the elections will be issued on June 1, while the last date for filing nominations has been fixed for June 8. Polling, if required, will take place on June 18.

The four vacancies from Andhra Pradesh have arisen as the terms of sitting members Alla Ayodhya Rami Reddy, Parimal Nathwani, Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose and Sana Satish Babu are ending on June 21. Of these, the first three belong to the YSR Congress Party, while Satish Babu represents the TDP.

With a massive numerical advantage in the 175-member Assembly, the NDA is expected to ensure a smooth and possibly unanimous victory for its candidates. The TDP currently holds 135 seats, while its allies JSP and BJP have 21 and 8 seats respectively. In contrast, the YSR Congress Party is left with only 11 legislators after suffering a crushing defeat in the 2024 Assembly elections.

The upcoming elections are also politically significant for the BJP and Jana Sena Party. While the BJP is likely to secure its third Rajya Sabha member from Andhra Pradesh, the Jana Sena Party, led by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, is expected to make its debut in the Upper House of Parliament.

TDP sources indicate that party president and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has already decided to leave one seat each for the BJP and JSP as part of alliance coordination.

The TDP is also likely to retain Sana Satish Babu, who was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha in December 2024 during by-elections held to fill vacancies caused by the resignations of former YSRCP MPs. Satish Babu is considered close to TDP Working President Nara Lokesh.

The remaining TDP seat is expected to witness competition among several aspirants within the party, though the final decision will rest with Chandrababu Naidu.

The NDA’s rise in Andhra Pradesh has significantly altered the state’s parliamentary landscape. Earlier, the TDP had no representation in the Rajya Sabha for a brief period after skipping the February 2024 elections due to inadequate strength in the Assembly. However, after the alliance’s sweeping victory in the 2024 Assembly elections, the TDP and BJP regained representation in the Upper House through subsequent by-elections.

The forthcoming Rajya Sabha elections are expected to further consolidate the NDA’s political dominance in Andhra Pradesh while strengthening the alliance’s presence in Parliament.
