New Delhi, May 2026 : Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta on Friday laid the foundation stone for an oxygen park to be developed across nearly three acres in Mukmelpur village of the Burari Assembly constituency. The project is aimed at providing residents with a well-designed public space that promotes greenery, health, recreation and community engagement. The Chief Minister said the Forest Department has sanctioned ₹1 crore for the project, while an additional ₹1 crore will be provided from her MLA discretionary fund. She directed officials to ensure that the park is equipped with modern amenities and developed to a standard that would place it among the finest parks in Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion, CM Rekha Gupta said that alongside building modern infrastructure, protecting the environment and improving citizens’ quality of life remain key priorities of the government’s vision for a developed Delhi. She said the Mukmelpur park would not merely serve as a green zone but would emerge as a centre for health, social interaction and positive living for local residents. She noted that the Delhi Government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi are working together to create more green spaces, modernise existing parks and expand public amenities across the capital. With Delhi’s population continuing to grow, such public spaces play an important role in helping people reconnect with nature, reduce stress and adopt healthier lifestyles, she added.

Designed with both public convenience and environmental sustainability in mind, the park will include walking tracks, attractive energy-efficient lighting, huts for seating and relaxation, a landscaped pond and a variety of shade-giving tree species. Large green lawns and open spaces will also be developed as part of the project. The Chief Minister said that once completed, the park would benefit thousands of residents not only from Mukmelpur but also from neighbouring areas such as Jindpur, Bakhtawarpur, Hiranki and nearby villages. It is expected to become an ideal venue for walking, exercise, yoga, recreation and community activities for children, women, senior citizens and young people alike.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the government’s target of planting 14 lakh saplings this year. She expressed confidence that initiatives such as Oxygen Parks, plantation drives and other environmental conservation efforts would help make Delhi cleaner, greener and more liveable. She said the government remains committed to advancing Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign and translating the vision of environmental protection and a developed India-developed Delhi into reality.

The Chief Minister also assured residents that the government would provide the necessary financial support for covering a polluted drain in the area and carrying out other local development works. She said development projects worth ₹20 crore have been approved for the Burari Assembly constituency based on suggestions from the Member of Parliament and local representatives. These projects include sewer line and drinking water pipeline works, while a permanent solution to the area’s water supply issues will also be pursued on priority.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the government has already initiated projects worth nearly ₹10,000 crore in villages and outer Delhi areas covering roads, drainage, transport, education and healthcare infrastructure. Once completed, these projects will significantly improve public services and civic amenities. She further informed that new medical equipment has been installed at Burari Hospital and dialysis facilities have been expanded. In addition, a long-defunct vehicle fitness centre is being redeveloped into a modern automated fitness testing centre, a move expected to generate new employment opportunities for local youth. The event was attended by North East Delhi MP Shri Manoj Tiwari, Delhi Mayor Shri Pravesh Wahi along with several dignitaries and local residents.
