Trump Says Iran Keen on Nuclear Deal, Warns US Pressure Will Continue
Washington, May 2026 : US President Donald Trump on Friday said Iran was eager to strike a deal with the United States but reiterated that Washington would maintain strong pressure on Tehran, asserting that the country “cannot have a nuclear weapon.”
Trump made the remarks at the White House during the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh, where he spoke extensively about America’s economy, military strength and foreign policy priorities. The President linked national security with economic expansion, presenting both as key pillars of his administration’s agenda.
“We have the greatest military in the world,” Trump said while highlighting increased defence spending and the administration’s efforts to modernise the armed forces.
Referring to Iran’s nuclear programme, Trump said, “Iran is dying to make a deal. We’ll see what happens, but we hit them hard, and we had no choice because Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.”
The US President did not elaborate on ongoing or potential negotiations with Tehran, nor did he specify the actions he meant when he claimed the United States had “hit them hard.” However, his comments underscored the administration’s continued hardline stance on Iran and its determination to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
Trump has consistently described Iran’s nuclear ambitions as one of the biggest threats to US national security. His administration has repeatedly pushed for tougher measures against Tehran while emphasising military preparedness and economic pressure as tools to curb Iran’s influence.
During his address, Trump also focused heavily on economic issues, claiming the United States was witnessing unprecedented industrial growth and investment under his leadership.
“We’re building factories, car plants, everything, AI, everything all over the country,” he said. “Nobody’s ever seen anything like it.”
The President announced that his administration would propose a military budget of $1.5 trillion, describing it as part of a broader effort to strengthen America’s global position.
Trump argued that economic growth and military power were closely interconnected, saying that tariffs and trade policies had helped revive manufacturing in the country. According to him, the United States had secured nearly $18 trillion in investments during the first 11 months of his administration.
While discussing America’s military capabilities, Trump also referred to a conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
“I was with President Xi, and I said to him, ‘We have the greatest military in the world,’” Trump stated.
The remarks come amid ongoing international concerns over Iran’s nuclear activities and rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Trump’s latest comments indicate that the administration intends to continue combining diplomatic pressure, economic measures and military readiness as part of its broader strategy toward Tehran.
