Jagan Alleges Large-Scale Vote Deletion During SIR, Announces Statewide YSRCP Protest Campaign

Amaravati, May 2026 : Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party president Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday expressed serious concern over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that large-scale deletion of votes had adversely impacted election outcomes in several states, including West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.

Addressing party leaders and cadre at the YSRCP central office in Tadepalli, Jagan Mohan Reddy cautioned party workers to remain vigilant as the SIR process is expected to be undertaken in Andhra Pradesh as well. He alleged that deletion of genuine votes during the revision process could significantly influence electoral results at the constituency level.

The YSRCP chief claimed that several political parties across the country had raised objections over the large-scale removal of names from electoral rolls during the SIR exercise. According to him, even the deletion of a small number of genuine votes in each village could alter the final election outcome.

Referring to West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, Jagan alleged that the removal of voters during the revision process had affected prominent leaders. He claimed that nearly 91 lakh votes were deleted in West Bengal and around 94 lakh votes in Tamil Nadu during SIR.

Citing specific examples, he alleged that in the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency in West Bengal, represented by Mamata Banerjee, nearly 45,982 votes were deleted and that she subsequently lost the election by around 15,000 votes.

Similarly, he claimed that in Kolathur constituency in Tamil Nadu, around 71,000 names were removed from the voters’ list, following which M. K. Stalin lost the election by approximately 8,000 votes.

Jagan Mohan Reddy urged YSRCP leaders and workers to carefully monitor the electoral rolls in Andhra Pradesh and identify what he described as bogus and duplicate votes allegedly linked to the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP). Referring to Kuppam constituency, represented by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, he alleged that the voter list contained thousands of suspicious entries with repeated names and identical family details.

Launching a fresh political offensive against the ruling coalition government in Andhra Pradesh, Jagan accused the Chandrababu Naidu-led administration of betraying public trust and failing to fulfil promises made during the elections.

As part of the campaign against the coalition government, the former Chief Minister announced a statewide agitation programme titled “Two Years of Backstabbing”, which will be conducted from June 4 to June 12 across Andhra Pradesh.

He instructed party cadre to intensify grassroots outreach efforts by taking the campaign booklet to every household and creating awareness among the public regarding what he termed as the government’s failures and unfulfilled promises.

According to Jagan, the agitation will begin on June 4 at mandal headquarters across the state. During the protests, YSRCP leaders and workers will publicly display copies of Chandrababu Naidu’s election manifesto, guarantees, and bonds issued during the campaign, before symbolically burning them to protest what the party describes as betrayal of public faith.

He directed all party in-charges and local leaders to actively participate in the agitation programmes at the mandal level.

The YSRCP will also organise town hall meetings at constituency headquarters on June 8 or June 9 as part of the campaign. Farmers, women, youth, and representatives from various social groups are expected to participate in discussions focusing on what the party calls “two years of anti-people governance”, broken promises, and administrative failures under the coalition government.

The final phase of the agitation is scheduled for June 12, when large rallies will be organised in all constituency headquarters across Andhra Pradesh.

Jagan Mohan Reddy stated that the protest campaign aims to expose the government’s inability to improve people’s living conditions despite making several promises before coming to power. He added that he would personally monitor the implementation and conduct of the protest programmes throughout the state.

The YSRCP president also asked party leaders to begin preparations for the upcoming local body elections and remain united against the ruling alliance.

Referring to recent local body by-elections, he alleged that the ruling coalition had misused official machinery and police forces to intimidate YSRCP leaders and workers. Despite such pressures, he urged party cadre to treat the local body elections as prestigious contests and work collectively to counter what he described as conspiracies by the ruling party.
