Former Daily Wage Labourer Rani Yadav Becomes a Successful Rural Entrepreneur
Financial Assistance from Self-Help Group and Determination Helped Her Build a New Identity
Raipur, June 2026 : With determination and hard work, women can transform their lives and create new opportunities for themselves. This has been exemplified by Rani Yadav, who once worked as a daily wage labourer to support her family but has now emerged as a successful and self-reliant entrepreneur in her village. With support from a Self-Help Group (SHG) and her own perseverance, she started a poultry farming business that significantly increased her income and improved her family’s financial condition. Today, she is inspiring other women to pursue self-employment and financial independence.
Rani Yadav, a resident of Ramhepur Gram Panchayat under Sahaspur Lohara Janpad Panchayat in Kabirdham district, serves as the Secretary of the Jai Maa Sharda Self-Help Group. Before joining the group, her life was marked by financial hardships. To meet her family’s basic needs, she depended primarily on agricultural work and daily wage labour. However, the combined annual income from these activities was only around Rs 35,000, making it difficult to manage household expenses.
A turning point came when she became associated with the Jai Maa Sharda Self-Help Group. Through regular group meetings and training programmes, she learned about savings, entrepreneurship, and income-generating opportunities. The group also provided her with access to financial assistance, enabling her to consider starting a business of her own.
Through the Self-Help Group, Rani received Rs 5,000 under the Revolving Fund, Rs 60,000 from the Community Investment Fund (CIF), and a bank loan of Rs 1 lakh. With this financial support, she decided to launch a poultry farming venture.
Initially, she started on a small scale. However, through consistent effort, dedication, and careful management, the business gradually expanded. Over time, poultry farming became a reliable source of income and transformed her economic situation.
Today, Rani’s earnings have increased substantially. She earns approximately Rs 30,000 annually from agriculture, around Rs 1.6 lakh from poultry farming, and nearly Rs 20,000 from wage labour. As a result, her family’s total annual income has risen to approximately Rs 2.1 lakh, representing a significant improvement over her earlier earnings.
Reflecting on her journey, Rani says that joining the Self-Help Group brought a major change in her life. It not only provided financial assistance but also gave her the confidence and knowledge needed to become self-reliant. The enhanced income has strengthened her family’s financial stability and improved their quality of life.
Today, Rani Yadav stands as a role model in her village. Having achieved success through entrepreneurship, she actively encourages other women to join Self-Help Groups, develop their skills, and start their own businesses. Her story demonstrates how access to financial support, training, and determination can empower rural women to become economically independent and contribute to the development of their communities.
