New Delhi, June 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday met Nepal’s ruling party leader Rabi Lamichhane and reiterated India’s commitment to deepening its longstanding partnership with Nepal, describing the Himalayan nation as a key pillar of New Delhi’s “Neighbourhood First” policy.
Lamichhane, chairman of Nepal’s Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), held discussions with the Prime Minister during his visit to the Indian capital, with both leaders emphasising closer cooperation and a shared vision for prosperity and development in the region.

Following the meeting, PM Modi highlighted the importance of strengthening bilateral engagement and welcomed Lamichhane’s commitment to enhancing ties between the two neighbouring countries.
In a message shared on social media, the Prime Minister said he was pleased to meet the RSP leader and expressed confidence that India and Nepal would continue working together for a common and prosperous future. He also reaffirmed that Nepal remains a priority partner under India’s foreign policy framework and stressed the importance of elevating the multifaceted relationship to new heights.
The meeting comes at a significant time in Nepal’s political landscape, with the RSP emerging as a major political force and playing an important role in the country’s current governing arrangement.
Earlier on Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also met a Nepalese delegation led by Lamichhane. During the interaction, Shah congratulated the RSP leadership on its electoral success and conveyed India’s best wishes for the stability and success of Nepal’s new government.
According to the Union Home Ministry, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the special relationship between India and Nepal while exploring opportunities for enhanced cooperation across multiple sectors.
After meeting Shah, Lamichhane described the discussions as constructive and productive. He said the talks focused on expanding bilateral cooperation, strengthening security coordination, and promoting democratic values and shared interests through closer collaboration between political parties in both countries.
As part of his engagements in New Delhi, Lamichhane and the Nepalese delegation also met Bharatiya Janata Party President Nitin Nabin under the BJP’s “Know BJP” outreach initiative.

During the interaction, Nabin briefed the visiting delegation on the BJP’s organisational structure, ideological foundations and governance approach under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. Discussions also focused on public outreach strategies and political engagement models.
Nabin underscored the deep historical and cultural bonds between India and Nepal, describing the relationship as one rooted in shared civilisational values, cultural affinity and enduring people-to-people connections.
The two sides also exchanged views on the growing role of youth and Generation Z in shaping modern politics. Discussions highlighted how younger citizens are increasingly influencing democratic participation, public discourse and political leadership in both countries.
The high-level interactions reflect ongoing efforts by India and Nepal to further strengthen their strategic partnership while expanding cooperation across political, economic and social spheres.
