Hyderabad Police Conduct Massive ‘Operation Kavach’, Inspect 562 Hotels and Lodges Across City

Hyderabad, June 2026: In a major crackdown aimed at enhancing urban security and preventing anti-social and criminal activities, the Hyderabad City Police carried out an extensive city-wide operation titled “Operation Kavach”, inspecting hundreds of hotels and lodges during coordinated midnight raids across the Telangana capital.

The large-scale operation was conducted between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. on Friday night, covering 562 hotels and lodges spread across all seven zones of the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate. Nearly 5,000 police personnel participated in the drive, making it one of the most comprehensive security exercises undertaken in recent times.

The operation was supervised directly by Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, who personally inspected several establishments in key commercial areas, including those near Nampally Railway Station and Ameerpet. During the visits, he reviewed hotel registration procedures, guest verification systems and the maintenance of visitor records.

Officials said the Commissioner closely examined room allocation processes and checked whether establishments were adhering to mandatory identity verification norms. He also interacted with guests staying at various lodges and hotels, verifying their personal details and enquiring about the purpose of their visit to Hyderabad.

According to police officials, the inspections were conducted simultaneously across all police zones. Khairatabad Zone recorded the highest number of inspections with 119 establishments, followed by Shamshabad Zone with 92. Jubilee Hills and Golconda zones each saw inspections at 86 locations, while Secunderabad, Rajendranagar, and Charminar zones covered 82, 53, and 44 establishments, respectively.

Police teams carried out detailed checks of guest records, room occupancy details and compliance with security regulations. The exercise focused on identifying suspicious activities, verifying the authenticity of guest information and ensuring that hotels were maintaining proper documentation.

Commissioner Sajjanar issued strict instructions to hotel and lodge operators, directing them to verify original identity documents of all guests and maintain complete records, including contact information, check-in and check-out timings. He warned against accommodating individuals based on incomplete or forged documents and stressed that minors should not be provided rooms without proper age verification.

As part of efforts to strengthen surveillance and monitoring, the Commissioner announced plans to introduce a Digital Visitor Management System across hospitality establishments. He also directed hotel operators to install high-definition CCTV cameras covering reception areas, entrances and exits to improve security and aid investigations when required.

The police chief urged citizens, hotel staff and managements to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activities through Dial 100 or the nearest police station. He warned that strict legal action would be initiated against establishments found violating security norms or failing to comply with police directives.

Several senior IPS officers, Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) and specialised police units participated in the operation, which officials described as a proactive measure to strengthen public safety and maintain law and order across Hyderabad.
