10th anniversary of Swachh Bharat Mission
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has said that Madhya Pradesh has set many records in the cleanliness campaign started in the country on the initiative of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. As per the wishes of the Prime Minister, the people of the state have established new dimensions in the field of cleanliness with full enthusiasm and public cooperation. While Madhya Pradesh got the status of the cleanest state in the Swachh Survekshan for 2022, Indore city got the distinction of being the cleanest city in the country for the 7th consecutive time. Along with this, an innovation was also made to produce bio-CNG from wet waste in the state in 2023.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav informed that the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign is starting on 17th September, the birthday of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, and will continue till October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. This year the theme is “Swabhav Swachhta-Sanskaar Swachhta”. Emphasis has been laid on greater public participation and participation of local bodies. Madhya Pradesh has set new records in many cases in Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban). All the cities of the state have made their best efforts during the last 10 years. With the cooperation of the public, Swachh Bharat Mission has been transformed into a mass movement. Indore City bagged the ‘Cleanest City of the Country’ award for the 7th consecutive time in the Swachh Survekshan Award-2023. This is an excellent example of public participation in Indore. Madhya Pradesh is the first state to prepare guidelines and issue work orders for STP Inception and Diversion-based sewage treatment systems at low cost. This year, in March 2024, Madhya Pradesh published “Utility Water and Septage Management Policy” for urban bodies, in which 100 percent mechanized cleaning of sewers and septic tanks has been ensured. Indore is the first city in the country to achieve Water Plus certification and a 7-star rating. Recently, in the Clean Air Survey-2024 under the National Clean Air Programme, Jabalpur has got second position in the country for improvement in air quality in the category of cities with a population above 10 lakh.100 percent garbage collection through motorized vehicles
More than 7 thousand 82 motorized vehicles are being used to operate the garbage collection system in urban areas of the state. The vehicles have compartments made in them to hold dry, wet, household hazardous, and sanitary waste separately. Vehicle monitoring and cleanliness issues are being promoted through GPS and PA systems. Spot compositing is being encouraged for processing and disposal of wet waste. It is being done by more than 850 solid waste producers in the state. Giving priority to the disposal of faecal sludge in the state, 399 Faecal Sludge Treatment Plants (FSTP) are being operated in 368 urban bodies and 55 Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) are being operated in 20 urban bodies. 401 urban bodies in the state are doing compositing with 368 centralized units. For processing dry waste, 360 material recovery facility units have been constructed in 401 urban bodies.Production of bio CNG from wet waste
Continuous efforts are being made to scientifically eliminate legacy waste in civic bodies. Legacy waste of 108 urban bodies of the state is being treated. In the first phase of the Swachh Bharat Mission, 50 urban bodies have completely disposed of their legacy waste. State-of-the-art self-propelled units are working in Katni and Sagar for compositing wet waste. In these units, garbage is being brought from 16 cities and converted into compost. Govardhan unit of 550 tonne per day capacity is working to prepare bio-CNG from wet waste in Indore. Waste-to-electricity units are also running in Rewa and Jabalpur. In these units, 18 MW of electricity is being generated by processing 950 tonnes of waste every day. Approval has been received from the Central Government for cluster-based units with a capacity of 1019 tonnes per day for 10 bodies of the state. It is proposed to generate electricity from 660 tonnes of waste in Indore and Ujjain. About 12.15 MW electricity will be generated in this unit. With all these works, the urban bodies of the state will be able to become self-reliant in waste management by the year 2027.New heights achieved in Swachh Survekshan
Madhya Pradesh bagged the status of the cleanest state in the country in Swachh Survekshan-2022. Madhya Pradesh was declared the second cleanest state in the country in the Swachh Survekshan-2023. Madhya Pradesh has received 7 national awards for cleanliness. 361 bodies of the state have received ODF Double Plus, 3 bodies have received ODF Plus and 7 bodies have received ODF certification. To promote the treatment of wastewater and the use of treated water in urban bodies, 7 bodies have received Water Plus certification. Till now, 384 bodies of the state have declared themselves protected cities based on CPHEEO norms.Swachh Survekshan-2024
In the category of open defecation-free cities, 27 cities have been given Water Plus and all the remaining cities have been given Double Plus, while for garbage-free star certification, a target has been set to get all the cities certified with at least 3 stars.Innovation and excellent efforts
An activity called Swachhta Ki Pathshala (School of Cleanliness) has been started to generate awareness of cleanliness issues in the state. For this, till now 44 thousand 639 Safai Mitras, 2004 officers, 243 public representatives, and representatives of 200 non-governmental organizations have been trained in 388 training sessions. To strengthen the process of learning from mutual experience, cleanliness interactive sessions are being organized every day. To ensure the good health of Safai Mitras, National Health Mission-aided camps were organized for health check-ups of Safai Mitras and their families. Of these, 44 thousand 701 Safai Mitras and their families availed of the benefit. Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, more than 10 online training sessions have been organized on key topics related to cleanliness. Recently 16 training sessions were organized at RCVP Noronha Academy of Administration. In these sessions, exposure visits along with training were conducted for more than 600 officers and employees in 14 urban bodies and 311 civic bodies to bring about change at the grass.
