PM Modi Leaves for Seychelles on Three-Day State Visit to Strengthen Maritime Ties and Strategic Partnership
New Delhi, June 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday departed on a three-day State Visit to Seychelles, where he will participate as the Guest of Honour at the island nation’s Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations. The visit is expected to further deepen bilateral ties, enhance maritime cooperation, and reinforce India’s strategic engagement in the Indian Ocean Region.
The visit comes at the invitation of Seychelles President Dr. Patrick Herminie and coincides with two important milestones — the 50th anniversary of Seychelles’ National Day celebrations and the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles.
In his departure statement, Prime Minister Modi described Seychelles as a “valued maritime neighbour” and a “key partner” in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR, emphasising the shared commitment of both nations towards the development and security of the Global South.
“At the invitation of my friend, President Dr. Patrick Herminie, I will undertake a State Visit to Seychelles from June 27 to 29 to participate in the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the National Day of Seychelles as the Guest of Honour,” PM Modi said before leaving for the island nation.
Highlighting the significance of bilateral ties, the Prime Minister noted that the relationship between the two countries has been built on mutual trust, democratic values, respect for diversity and strong people-to-people connections over the past five decades.
During the visit, PM Modi is scheduled to hold extensive bilateral discussions with President Herminie to review the entire spectrum of India-Seychelles relations and identify new avenues for cooperation in sectors such as maritime security, defence, trade, development partnerships, capacity building and regional stability.
The Prime Minister will also address the National Assembly of Seychelles, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to do so. Calling it a historic occasion, he said the opportunity reflects the shared democratic traditions and parliamentary values that unite the two countries.
“This historic opportunity reflects the strong democratic values and parliamentary traditions that bind our two nations,” PM Modi said.
In addition to official engagements, the Prime Minister is expected to interact with members of the Indian diaspora in Seychelles, acknowledging their longstanding contribution to strengthening the friendship between the two nations. He described the Indian community as a “living bridge” that has nurtured bilateral ties across generations.
The visit follows President Herminie’s trip to India in February this year, during which both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
Prime Minister Modi expressed confidence that the visit would give fresh momentum to the enduring partnership between India and Seychelles, particularly in the maritime domain.
“I look forward to my discussions with President Herminie to further strengthen our enduring friendship. Together, we will work to advance the progress of our peoples and promote security and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region,” he said.
The Prime Minister added that the visit would further consolidate bilateral relations, deepen maritime collaboration, and advance the shared vision of a secure, peaceful and prosperous Indian Ocean Region, reflecting India’s growing strategic engagement with its maritime neighbours.
