CM M.K. Stalin Inaugurates New Food Supply Facilities in Tamil Nadu

Under the Tamil Nadu Consumer Cooperative Federation, the Centenary Food Supply Depot has been constructed at a cost of ₹57.95 crore. It includes a Centenary Food Supply Depot building, four cold storage facilities, 58 grocery stores, and additional buildings worth ₹15.22 crore.

On September 23, 2024, the Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. M.K. Stalin, inaugurated these facilities at the Tamil Nadu Consumer Cooperative Federation’s headquarters in Kottaiyampudur. The inaugurated projects include the Centenary Food Supply Depot costing ₹4 crore and ₹66 lakh, four cold storage facilities costing ₹17 crore and ₹4 lakh located in Dindigul, Tiruchirappalli, and Kallur, and 58 grocery stores built at a cost of ₹36 crore and ₹25 lakh in Sathankulam, Dindigul, Thanjavur, Tiruvallur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukkottai, and Cuddalore.

The total investment of ₹57.95 crore for these buildings was inaugurated by the Honorable Chief Minister. New buildings constructed under the cooperative sector were also inaugurated.

Among them are the Tamil Nadu Consumer Cooperative Federation’s Centenary Food Supply Depot in Senlai, which spans 29,195 square feet and cost ₹7 crore and ₹50 lakh. The buildings include facilities for self-service, agricultural products, and pharmacies.

In line with the cooperative sector’s funding announcements for the year 2022-2023, a new building was constructed in Senlai for the Poongaanagar Consumer Cooperative Sales Depot at a cost of ₹4 crore and ₹50 lakh, with an area of 4,800 square feet and a built-up area of 9,801 square feet.

A building for the Thiruvellikkani Urban Cooperative Society was also inaugurated, costing ₹15 crore and ₹22 lakh, which includes a marriage hall and community hall on the first floor, constructed in accordance with the cooperative sector’s guidelines.

The Tamil Nadu Consumer Cooperative Federation also appointed 110 individuals and provided permanent placements for 78 workers. This includes appointments for 32 employees’ dependents based on merit.

This event was attended by distinguished officials, including Mr. K.N. Kannan from the Municipal Administration Department, Mr. E. Kelu from the Public Works Department, Mr. K.R. Sabariyakaruppan from the Cooperative Department, Mr. S. Ragupathi from the Law Department, and several other senior government officials.
