Maharashtra’s Contribution is Key to Achieving Sustainable Development Goals at the National Level: Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha Speaker Adv. Rahul Narvekar
New Delhi, 24th September: Maharashtra’s commitment and contribution to the Central Government’s efforts toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as part of Agenda-2030 is significant. An integrated approach has been adopted for the development of key sectors such as industry, technology, and agriculture. Along with advancing sustainable development goals, Maharashtra’s role is becoming increasingly important in making India a prosperous and developed nation, said Adv. Rahul Narvekar. He was speaking at the 10th Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, India Region (CPA India Region).
The conference on “The Role of Legislatures in Sustainable and Inclusive Development” was held under the chairmanship of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who also serves as the head of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, India Division, in New Delhi on the 23rd and 24th of September 2024. Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha Speaker Adv. Rahul Narvekar and Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Dr. Neelam Gorhe were in attendance. The two-day conference was inaugurated in the presence of Rajya Sabha Deputy Speaker Harivansh. During the event, Adv. Rahul Narvekar shared his insights.
To protect the environment, emphasis has been placed on promoting solar and wind power generation, as well as planting bamboo along the Samruddhi Highway. Given that Maharashtra is the fastest-urbanizing state in the country, the expansion of public transport networks, the promotion of electric vehicles, and the implementation of well-planned housing projects were also highlighted by Adv. Narvekar in his speech.
