CM M.K. Stalin Pledges Strong Support for 156th Birth Anniversary
Support for Khadi Artisans! On the occasion of the 156th birth anniversary of the revered Mahatma Gandhi, Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. M.K. Stalin, issued a statement to uplift Khadi spinners and weavers in all aspects of life, pledging strong backing for the Khadi industry.
Wear and Cherish Khadi! Support and Celebrate Our Artisans!
The Government of Tamil Nadu is implementing numerous welfare initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods and economic well-being of Khadi spinners and weavers in Tamil Nadu through Khadi village industries. Tamil Nadu has been a leader in the production of hand-spun yarn and the marketing of Khadi products, following Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of Khadi as the “weapon of non-violence” during India’s freedom struggle.
The Khadi produced by rural artisans is sold through Khadi outlets across Tamil Nadu, with the state government actively supporting the industry. Modern, innovative designs are also being promoted to keep up with contemporary trends. Additionally, Khadi cotton, Khadi polyester, and Khadi silk products are offered at a 30% discount throughout the year, making them affordable for the general public.
On this momentous occasion, the government is calling on students, youths, government employees, teachers, and the general public to proudly wear Khadi and village products, thereby preserving the legacy of Khadi and boosting its growth across the country.
