Training on Salt Block Preparation for Mithun

Serchhip : On November 20, 2024, a method demonstration on “Chilung Technology for Mithun” was conducted at Khawbel village under KVK Serchhip, North Vanlaiphai.

During the session, 11 society members participated in a hands-on demonstration on preparing salt blocks using the chilung technology. Dr. C. Lalremruata, SMS (Animal Science) of KVK Serchhip, North Vanlaiphai, provided a detailed explanation about the technology. He emphasized the importance of salt and area-specific mineral mixtures for the health of Mithun. These supplements play a vital role in improving the animals’ overall health.

Additionally, he highlighted that the designated salt block sites would ensure that Mithun frequently visit these areas, making it easier for herders to manage and monitor their health. This technology also helps reduce the chances of the animals straying far from the designated areas, making them safer from external threats and minimizing losses.

It was reported that Khawbel village has approximately 85 Mithun, and 14 families are currently engaged in rearing these animals.
