89,706 Students participated, spreading the message of ‘Road Safety’
Chandigarh – The second phase of the block-level road safety quiz competition was organised across schools and colleges in the state. A total of 89,706 students participated enthusiastically, spreading the important message of road safety. Senior police officers from various districts visited the competition centers to encourage the participants.
Under the guidance of the Director General of Police (DGP), Sh. Shatrujeet Kapur, nodal officers from the police department were assigned duties across districts to ensure proper management of the competition. Students were categorised into different groups based on their academic qualifications and age. The questions posed in the competition aimed at helping students understand the significance of road safety and encourage them to make informed decisions in real-life situations.
Sharing information in this regard an official spokesperson said that before the start of the campaign, students were provided with study materials related to road safety rules. Under the guidance of the DGP, the framework for this campaign was designed to involve students of all age groups across the state. To promote road safety, DGP, Sh. Shatrujeet Kapur had earlier facilitated the establishment of Police Cadet Corps and driver training centers in educational institutions through financial assistance from the Road Safety Fund, ensuring the implementation of road safety initiatives at the grassroots level.
In addition to this, several important measures were introduced to further road safety efforts. These included improvements in road engineering, ensuring accountability from the relevant departments, and facilitating immediate medical assistance for accident victims. Road safety awareness centers and Road Safety Clubs were also established and are being run in schools, colleges, and universities. A road safety fund has been created to ensure the availability of adequate financial resources for all interested institutions and departments.
On November 12, the first phase of the ‘Akhil Haryana Road Safety Quiz Competition-2024’ was successfully organised across all schools and colleges in the state, with over 44 lakh students participating—a record-breaking turnout. Following this, the Haryana Police organised the second phase of the competition at the block level, which will be followed by district, range, and state-level competitions.
Since 2013, the competition has seen lakhs of students participate in spreading road safety awareness. Though the competition was paused during the COVID-19 pandemic, DGP, Sh. Shatrujeet Kapur revived the initiative after taking charge in 2023, with a total of 42,24,000 students participating that year, further strengthening the message of road safety across the state.
