₹12.38 Crore Sanctioned for Modern Labs in Tamil Nadu Polytechnic Colleges

The Tamil Nadu government, through the Higher Education Department, has allocated ₹12.38 crore to establish new, modern laboratories in 11 government polytechnic colleges across various parts of the state, according to Hon’ble Minister for Higher Education, Mr. K. Ponmudi.

Hon’ble Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has introduced and implemented numerous innovative projects aimed at advancing higher education in the state. Under the 2024-2025 Higher Education Department’s budgetary announcements, funds have been sanctioned for modern laboratory facilities in 11 government polytechnic colleges in Tamil Nadu.

Breakdown of the Allocations:

  1. Internet of Things (IoT) Laboratories:
    • IoT labs will be established at government polytechnic colleges in Karaikudi and Bodinayakkanur.
    • A total of ₹1.84 crore has been allocated, with ₹92.1 lakh for each institution.
    • These labs will focus on cutting-edge research and practical applications of IoT in various fields.
  2. Additive Manufacturing Laboratories:
    • Allocations have been made for polytechnic colleges in Vellore, Tanjore, and Tiruchirappalli to establish Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing) labs.
    • A total of ₹3.48 crore has been sanctioned, with ₹1.16 crore for each college.
    • These labs will aid in reducing material waste and enhancing production processes, providing students with skills in modern manufacturing technologies.
  3. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics Laboratories:
    • Polytechnic colleges in Madurai, Salem, and Bargur will house AI and Robotics labs.
    • A total of ₹3.95 crore has been allocated, with ₹1.31 crore for each college.
    • These labs will provide comprehensive training, workshops, and educational programs in AI and robotics, helping students acquire advanced technological expertise.
  4. Electric Vehicle (EV) Technology Laboratories:
    • EV labs will be set up in Tirunelveli, Coimbatore, and Erode.
    • A total of ₹3.10 crore has been allotted, with ₹1.03 crore per college.
    • These labs will focus on research and development in EV motor technology, battery systems, and automation.

The introduction of these new laboratories aims to enhance the skills of students in these regions and prepare them for careers in emerging technologies. The Tamil Nadu government’s initiative reflects its commitment to providing state-of-the-art facilities for higher education and fostering technological innovation in the state.
