India emerged victorious in the inaugural U-19 Women’s Asia Cup 2024, defeating Bangladesh by 41 runs in the final held at Bayumas Oval, Kuala Lumpur, on Sunday, December 22. This historic triumph marked the first-ever edition of the tournament, and Team India claimed the title with a commanding performance.
Batting first, the Indian team posted a modest total of 117 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Opener Gongadi Trisha led the charge with an impressive 52 runs off 47 deliveries. Contributions from Mithila Vinod (17), captain Niki Prasad (12), and Ayushi Shukla (10) also helped stabilize the innings. Bangladesh’s Farzana Ismin delivered a stellar bowling performance, taking four wickets, while Nishita Akter and Habiba Islam picked up two and one wicket, respectively.
In response, Bangladesh faltered in their chase, managing only 76 runs before being bowled out in 18.3 overs. Wicketkeeper Juaria Firdaus top-scored with 22 runs off 30 balls, including three boundaries, while opener Fahomida Choya added 18 runs. However, no other Bangladeshi batter reached double figures, highlighting India’s dominance with the ball.
Left-arm spinner Ayushi Shukla spearheaded the Indian bowling attack, claiming three crucial wickets. The disciplined bowling and fielding unit ensured that Bangladesh never gained momentum during their innings.

Team India’s stellar performance in the first-ever U-19 Women’s Asia Cup sets a high benchmark for future tournaments and establishes the team as a force to be reckoned with in international cricket.
