Delhi Govt Launches Registration for Rs 2,100 Monthly Assistance Scheme for Women
New Delhi: The Delhi government, led by AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, has announced the commencement of registration for its monthly assistance scheme for women, starting Monday. Alongside this, registration for the Sanjeevani Yojana, which offers free medical treatment to individuals above 60 years of age, will also begin.
As part of the 2024-25 budget, the Delhi government introduced the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana, promising Rs 1,000 per month to all women aged 18 and above. However, Kejriwal recently declared that the monthly amount would be increased to Rs 2,100 if his party retains power in the upcoming assembly elections, scheduled for February next year.
The announcement has drawn criticism from the Delhi BJP unit, which accused Kejriwal of making “false promises.” The BJP claimed similar assurances were given by AAP before the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi and the assembly elections in Punjab but were not fulfilled.
During a press conference, Kejriwal emphasized the simplicity of the registration process. “Registration for the scheme begins tomorrow, and women do not need to visit any offices. Our volunteers will visit homes to complete the process,” he stated. He highlighted the scheme’s potential to transform lives, particularly for young women. “Many daughters are forced to discontinue their education after class 12 due to financial difficulties. This Rs 2,100 will enable them to pursue college education and even higher studies,” he added.
The initiative aims to empower women and address financial challenges, but its implementation and feasibility remain under scrutiny amid political criticism.
