Panvel-Indapur Stretch of Mumbai-Goa National Highway to be Completed by December 2025

Mumbai : The four-laning work of National Highway No. 66 (formerly NH-17) is currently underway under the supervision of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The authority has announced that the entire Panvel to Indapur stretch is expected to be completed by December 2025. Additionally, the service road construction along this stretch is progressing well, and the white-topping (PQC) work on the main road has been completed.

The NH-66 widening project between Panvel and Indapur has been undertaken in two phases:

  1. Panvel to Kasu
  2. Kasu to Indapur

Given the region’s heavy rainfall and climatic conditions, the highway is being built with rigid pavement (concrete roads) to enhance durability and longevity. The side areas of the road are also being reinforced with strong concrete structures.

The 84-kilometer stretch between Panvel and Indapur was initially awarded to Supreme Panvel Indapur Tollways Pvt. Ltd. However, due to the contractor’s failure to meet project conditions, the contract was terminated on November 17, 2021. Subsequently, the work was reassigned to two separate contractors:

  • Panvel to Kasu (42 km): Awarded to M/s J.M. Mhatre in January 2023 under a ₹151.26 crore contract. The official work commenced in April 2023. The white-topping (concrete paving) of the main road is completed, with only one underpass work pending. The service roads are fully operational, ensuring smooth four-lane traffic flow.
  • Kasu to Indapur (42 km): Awarded to M/s Kalyan Tollways in October 2022 under a ₹332 crore contract. The official work started in November 2022. Out of the total 42.3 km stretch, 30 km of concrete work is complete, and traffic movement has been maintained.

The remaining work on the Panvel-Indapur section of NH-66 is expected to be completed by December 31, 2025, according to NHAI.
