CM Stalin Inaugurates ₹210.80 Cr Seriyar Govt. Hospital & ‘Vizhudugal’ Centers

In Chennai, at Seriyar Nagar, a newly constructed super-specialty hospital at a cost of ₹210.80 crore, named “Seriyar Government Hospital”, and in the districts of Cuddalore, Dharmapuri, Sattur, and Tiruchirappalli, the newly established “Vizhudhugal” Integrated Resource Centers were inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru. Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru. M.K. Stalin, under the Department of Health and Family Welfare, inaugurated the newly constructed super-specialty hospital named “Seriyar Government Hospital” in Chennai, Sholavaram, Seriyar Nagar, built with modern medical equipment, consisting of a basement and six floors, at a cost of ₹210.80 crore. Additionally, under the Department of Welfare for Differently-Abled Persons, he inaugurated the “Vizhudhugal” Integrated Resource Centers established at a cost of ₹10.82 crore in the districts of Cuddalore, Dharmapuri, Sattur, and Tiruchirappalli, and also launched four “Vizhudhugal” Integrated Mobile Resource Units, distributing specially equipped scooters to 72 differently-abled individuals.

To provide high-quality medical facilities for the people of Tamil Nadu, the state government is undertaking initiatives such as the construction of new government hospitals, primary healthcare centers, enhancement of existing hospital infrastructure, installation of medical equipment, and implementing public health programs, including “People’s Medical Care” to prevent mortality and “Innu Uyir Kaappom – Namakkaga Kakkum 48” for emergency medical services.

As part of this vision, to provide high-quality specialty medical treatments for the people of Sholavaram and surrounding areas, Hon’ble Chief Minister laid the foundation stone on 08.03.2023 for the new hospital building, initially planned with a basement and three floors. Later, to provide additional specialized treatments, three more floors were added, and on 07.03.2024, the Hon’ble Chief Minister laid another foundation stone for the expansion.

The newly constructed hospital building in Seriyar Nagar was officially named “Seriyar Government Hospital” by the Hon’ble Chief Minister on 23.02.2025.
Now, this six-story, state-of-the-art super-specialty hospital, built at a cost of ₹210.80 crore, has been inaugurated today by the Hon’ble Chief Minister for public use.

This new hospital includes:

  • Basement: Parking area, 20-bed casualty unit, emergency care wards, MRI scanning facility, outpatient departments.
  • First Floor: Maternity ward, three operation theaters, modern blood bank, physiotherapy center, dialysis unit.
  • Second Floor: Full-body diagnostic center, women’s and children’s medical departments.
  • Third Floor: Private wards, maternity and family planning units, pediatric care.
  • Fourth Floor: Men’s general medicine, gastroenterology, microbiology lab, X-ray section.
  • Fifth Floor: Cardiology, three operation theaters, intensive care unit, cath lab.
  • Sixth Floor: Nephrology, renal transplant care, ESWL treatment for kidney stones, oncology, neurology, administrative offices.
  • Total Capacity: 560 beds.

To ensure specialized medical care, 102 doctors, 194 nurses, 79 medical staff, and 20 administrative staff have been appointed to serve the public.

Inauguration of “Vizhudhugal” Integrated Resource Centers & Distribution of Assistive Devices for the Differently-Abled

As part of the Tamil Nadu Rights Program, implemented with World Bank funding, the Hon’ble Chief Minister inaugurated four “Vizhudhugal” Integrated Resource Centers in Cuddalore, Dharmapuri, Sattur, and Tiruchirappalli at a cost of ₹10.82 crore.
At the state level, 9 such centers and 38 at the district level have been established today.

For the first time, six rehabilitation services have been integrated into a single center to provide comprehensive treatment for differently-abled individuals, including the distribution of 160 assistive devices.

Each district-level center is staffed with special educators, vision therapists, speech therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and psychological counselors to provide specialized services.

Additionally, four “Vizhudhugal” Integrated Mobile Resource Units, established at a cost of ₹2.24 crore, were launched by the Hon’ble Chief Minister today.
These mobile units will travel to designated areas, providing on-site rehabilitation services for differently-abled individuals who cannot visit the centers.

During the event, assistive scooters were distributed to 72 differently-abled beneficiaries.

With these initiatives, Tamil Nadu continues to advance in healthcare and rehabilitation services, ensuring accessibility and quality medical care for all citizens.
