Rinku Singh Named Vice-Captain of KKR Ahead of IPL 2026
Kolkata, March 2026 : Three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have appointed Rinku Singh as the vice-captain for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season, reinforcing their leadership group ahead of a highly anticipated campaign.
Rinku Singh, 28, has emerged as one of KKR’s most dependable performers in recent years, known for his explosive batting and agile fielding. Since joining the franchise in 2018, he has become a mainstay in the playing XI, delivering crucial performances under pressure. His elevation to vice-captain reflects both his consistency on the field and his growing influence within the squad.
Announcing the decision, KKR CEO Venky Mysore expressed confidence in Rinku’s leadership abilities, stating that the franchise is delighted to see him take on a larger role. He highlighted Rinku’s journey with the team, noting his steady rise and commitment over the years.
KKR will be led this season by veteran India opener Ajinkya Rahane, with Rinku serving as his deputy. The team is set to begin its IPL 2026 campaign against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 29. Their first home game will follow on April 2 at Eden Gardens against Sunrisers Hyderabad, before hosting Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants on April 6 and 9, respectively.
Meanwhile, the franchise is actively addressing concerns over injuries within its squad. KKR is currently conducting trials during its pre-season camp to identify replacements for injured pacers, including Harshit Rana. Several domestic bowlers, such as Navdeep Saini, Akash Madhwal, Simarjeet Singh, Sandeep Warrier, KM Asif, and Sunil Kumar, are being evaluated to fill the gaps in the bowling lineup.
Earlier, KKR had already named Vidarbha pacer Saurabh Dubey as a replacement for injured India fast bowler Akash Deep, who has been ruled out due to a lower back stress injury. Dubey, 28, is yet to make his IPL debut but has been part of domestic circuits and previously featured in the India A setup during the 2019 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup.
With a balanced mix of experienced leaders and emerging talents, KKR will look to mount a strong title challenge this season. The appointment of Rinku Singh as vice-captain signals the franchise’s intent to build a dynamic and resilient leadership core as they aim to add another trophy to their cabinet.
