Sairang Railway Construction Expected to be Completed by July This Year – MP K. Vanlalvena Informs Parliament
During the ongoing Parliament Budget Session, Rajya Sabha MP K. Vanlalvena addressed the house yesterday, stating that the Bairabi-Sairang Railway construction is expected to be fully completed by July this year. This update was provided to him by the Deputy Chief Engineer of Indian Railways, which he shared in Parliament House.
The Bairabi-Sairang Railway spans 51.38 km and includes four railway stations: Hortoki, Kawnpui, Mualkhang, and Sairang Sihhmui. The project consists of:
- 32 underground tunnels
- 15 cut-and-cover tunnels
- 55 major bridges
- 89 minor bridges
- 5 viaducts (above road level)
- 4 viaducts (below road level)
According to MP Vanlalvena, 95% of the construction work has already been completed. Out of the ₹8,215 crore allocated for the project by the Ministry of Railways, ₹7,714 crore has already been utilized.
He further stated that the railway line has six of the highest elevated points, with the tallest bridge standing at 114 meters. Due to unstable terrain, excessive rainfall, and difficult working conditions, the project faced several delays. However, with these challenges now addressed, the completion of the project is imminent.
MP Vanlalvena expressed gratitude to the Union Railway Ministry for ensuring progress despite these difficulties. He also urged other MPs to support the upcoming inauguration program in Aizawl, ensuring local participation in the event.
