Maharashtra Should Be in the Top Five in the Clean India Mission – Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Meghna Sakore-Bordikar

Mumbai : The Clean India Mission is a significant initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Our state must strive to be among the top five in the country in this mission. To achieve this, every official must complete their work in a planned and timely manner, stated Meghna Sakore-Bordikar, the Minister of State for Water Supply and Sanitation.

A review meeting for the Clean India Mission was held at Nirmal Bhavan. During this meeting, Sanjay Khandare, Principal Secretary of the Water Supply and Sanitation Department, and E. Ravindran, Director of the Jal Jeevan Mission and Clean India Mission, were present. The Chief Executive Officers of all district councils from across the state participated in the meeting through video conferencing.

Minister Sakore-Bordikar mentioned that cleanliness ambassadors will be appointed in the state, and they will be trained and prepared for their tasks. Officials who perform excellently will be honored by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. At the same time, she warned that action would be taken against those officials who do not take the targets seriously.

The government is committed to effectively implementing the cleanliness initiatives in the state and instilling a habit of cleanliness in every village. The pace of this campaign will be accelerated in the coming period, she added.

Under the special 100-day program, a target of 100% completion must be achieved by April 25, 2025. All villages should be declared open defecation-free by August 15, 2025. Under the PM Janman scheme, the remaining 445 villages and 83 villages under the Parliament Model Village Scheme should be declared open defecation-free by April 2025. The verification of open defecation-free villages should be completed by December 31, 2025. All plastic waste management projects must be completed by August 15, 2025. Pending applications for the Goberdhan project and Citizen App should be resolved by April 30, 2025.

In the open defecation-free villages, women’s self-help groups should be appointed for waste collection, and user fees should be determined through the Gram Sabha by May 31, 2025.

She also directed that the remaining open defecation-free villages in the district should be adopted by district, taluka, and panchayat-level officers and advisors, and immediate planning for necessary work should be undertaken.
