Chhattisgarh to Become a National Hub for Education: CM Vishnu Deo Sai

Focus on Enhancing Quality to Bring Universities and Colleges Among Top 100 Institutions in India

Korba, Dantewada, and Raigarh to Develop as National Model Colleges; Indira Kala Sangeet University, Khairagarh, to Be Elevated to Global Standards

Raipur : Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai has resolved to transform Chhattisgarh into a national center of excellence in education. While reviewing the progress of the Higher Education Department at his official residence, he emphasized the need to enhance the quality of universities and colleges in the state so that they can secure a place among the top 100 educational institutions in the country. He stated that such recognition would attract students from across India, thereby strengthening Chhattisgarh’s academic image on a national level.

The Chief Minister directed officials to identify select colleges in districts like Korba, Dantewada, and Raigarh—where sufficient District Mineral Foundation (DMF) funds are available—and develop them as national model colleges with specialized academic focus. He added that these institutions could serve as learning centers not just for students from the state, but from across the country and abroad.

Shri Sai highlighted the importance of implementing the “Professor of Practice” policy in alignment with the New Education Policy. He stated that involving distinguished experts from various fields in teaching roles would provide students with practical insights and contemporary knowledge. He also called for a special strategy to further upgrade Indira Kala Sangeet University in Khairagarh to global standards.

On this occasion, Higher Education Secretary Dr. Bharathidasan presented a comprehensive overview of the department’s activities. He informed that under the Prime Minister’s USHA scheme, Bastar University has received a ₹100 crore grant under the MERU (Multidisciplinary Education and Research University) initiative. He also stated that starting from the 2024–25 academic session, the National Education Policy 2020 has been implemented in 7 government and 17 private universities, along with 335 government and 321 private colleges in the state. Dr. Bharathidasan outlined key components of the policy and ongoing initiatives.

He also reviewed progress under RUSA 1.0 and 2.0, departmental promotions for faculty members, recruitment drives conducted by the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission and Vyapam, and shared upcoming plans. These include introducing the “Professor of Practice” model, enhancing skill development, launching job-oriented courses, and promoting skill-based entrepreneurship.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Shri Amitabh Jain, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Shri Subodh Singh, Secretary to the Chief Minister Shri Basavaraju S., Higher Education Commissioner Dr. Santosh Dewangan, and other senior officials of the Higher Education Department.
