Minister Vikhe Patil’s Statement in the Legislative Assembly: Rs 35 per Liter for Milk
Mumbai : The reduction in the price of milk powder and butter in the international market had affected the purchase rate of milk in the state. Due to this, milk-producing farmers were in financial trouble. To provide relief to these farmers, the government has decided to set a fixed price of Rs 30 per liter for milk, with an additional subsidy of Rs 5 from the government. The new milk rates will be applicable from July 1. Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil made a statement in this regard in the Legislative Assembly.
Minister Vikhe Patil stated that by holding an urgent meeting with cooperatives, private milk producer unions, and milk-producing farmers across the state, the issues of these farmers and milk unions were understood. All private and cooperative milk unions in the state agreed to pay farmers Rs 30 per liter. Additionally, the government will provide a subsidy of Rs 5 per liter to the farmers, credited to the accounts of milk producers. Minister Vikhe Patil also mentioned that this would bring relief to farmers by ensuring they receive Rs 35 per liter.
Minister Vikhe Patil further explained that in recent days, the demand for milk powder and butter in the international market has decreased, leading to a drop in their prices. Consequently, there is a significant stock of milk powder in the state. To address this, the government has decided to provide a subsidy of Rs 30 per kilogram as an incentive to milk plants in the state that export powder. This grant will be limited to 15,000 metric tons.
