Pakistan Violates Ceasefire; India Responds with Strong Retaliation

New Delhi: The 86-hour-long conflict between India and Pakistan officially came to an end at 5 PM on Saturday following a ceasefire agreement. However, within just three hours, Pakistan violated the ceasefire terms, reigniting tensions along the border.

According to reports, Pakistan resumed heavy firing in multiple sectors of Jammu and Kashmir, including Akhnoor, Rajouri, RS Pura, and Palanwala. In a more alarming development, a suspected drone attack was reported in the Baramulla district of Kashmir. Indian forces have been placed on high alert, and instructions have been issued to deliver a strong and appropriate response to these provocations.

The Indian government has directed the Border Security Force (BSF) to respond firmly to the ceasefire breaches. Following the violations, blackouts were imposed in several regions to prevent further escalations. Power outages were reported across large parts of Jammu, Baramulla, and even in areas of Srinagar. Similar blackouts were also observed in Amritsar and Ferozepur districts of Punjab, indicating the seriousness of the security situation.

In Rajasthan’s Pokhran region, a significant number of drones were detected entering Indian airspace. However, India’s defense systems successfully intercepted and neutralized them, preventing any major damage. Sporadic gunfire was also reported in Rajouri, highlighting the continued threat despite the ceasefire announcement.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed the ceasefire agreement, stating that the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) from both India and Pakistan held discussions at 3:35 PM. It was mutually agreed that hostilities on land, air, and sea would cease starting from 5 PM. However, the latest violations have cast a shadow over the ceasefire’s effectiveness.

Misri added that both countries’ military officials are scheduled to meet again on May 12 to discuss the way forward and chart out further steps to maintain peace and stability in the region.
