All-Party Delegation Led by Tharoor Reaches Brazil to Rally Global Support Against Terrorism
A high-level all-party parliamentary delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor arrived in Brazil on Sunday, aiming to strengthen international cooperation in the fight against terrorism. The delegation’s visit is part of India’s broader diplomatic campaign to expose cross-border terrorism and reinforce its zero-tolerance stance in the global arena.
The nine-member team, representing a wide political spectrum, was welcomed at the Brasília airport by Charge d’Affaires Sandeep Kumar Kujur. The group had earlier concluded engagements in Colombia and will hold a series of high-level meetings in Brazil with prominent leaders and lawmakers. Scheduled discussions include meetings with Presidential Chief Advisor Celso Amorim, Secretary-General for Foreign Affairs Maria Laura da Rocha, Senator Nelson Traid—head of the India-Brazil Maitri Morcha—and Federal Deputy Filipe Barros, who chairs the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies’ Foreign Affairs and National Defence Committee.
According to a statement from the Indian Embassy in Brazil, the visit is part of India’s ongoing international outreach, especially in the wake of the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The delegation will brief Brazilian officials on recent developments in India and highlight the country’s firm national consensus on combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will also underline India’s unwavering commitment to counter cross-border terrorism, with specific emphasis on Pakistan’s role in supporting terror networks.
The delegation’s Brazil visit is one leg of a wider initiative involving seven Indian delegations dispatched to 33 world capitals. These missions are tasked with presenting credible evidence of Pakistan’s involvement in promoting terrorism, particularly following India’s precision strikes on terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7. These retaliatory actions were in response to the Pahalgam attack. Pakistan subsequently attempted counter-attacks on Indian military sites from May 8 to 10, prompting a strong Indian response. Hostilities ceased following a de-escalation agreement between the two countries’ Directors General of Military Operations on May 10.
India’s parliamentary diplomacy, reflected in this multi-party initiative, aims to build global consensus and isolate sponsors of terror. The presence of leaders across the political spectrum reinforces India’s unified voice on national security and sends a strong message of solidarity and resolve to the international community.
