Chief Minister Convenes Meeting To Review Ongoing Disaster Situation In Mizoram
Aizawl: Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma convened a review meeting at the CM Conference Hall to assess the ongoing disaster situation triggered by heavy rainfall across various parts of Mizoram. The meeting was attended by key Ministers, senior government officials, and Deputy Commissioners from various districts via video conferencing.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister expressed appreciation to all field officials, emergency responders, and those involved in relief and rescue operations. He emphasized the spirit of resilience and unity among the Mizo people during these trying times and urged officials to continue extending support to those affected.
The Chief Minister instructed that priority be given to clearing major roads in district headquarters and airport access routes. He directed the DDMA to ensure efficient use of funds and called for the immediate release of necessary financial assistance and relief materials. He also directed that damage assessments be conducted under the supervision of the Department of Disaster Management & Rehabilitation (DM&R), and comprehensive reports be submitted to the Central Government for assistance.
The Chief Minister noted that many of the disasters being reported are man-made in nature. Hence, he stressed the need for stricter planning and greater technical expertise in development and infrastructure projects to prevent further tragedies.
According to the DM&R report presented at the meeting, 211 areas have been affected by landslides, 60 houses have been damaged, 69 houses have been evacuated, 83 roadblocks reported, 4 retaining walls collapsed, 1 electric pole fallen, 2 landslides reported, and 4 deaths confirmed. Several cases of waterlogging were also reported, with updates still coming in during the meeting.
PWD informed that 21 roads are currently blocked. Intensive restoration work is ongoing, especially in Serchhip, Thenzawl, and Sialsuk areas to reopen key routes.
The Power & Electricity Department reported damage to 7 of the 33 KV sub-stations. Widespread power outages have been reported across several locations. Restoration efforts are underway, but officials estimate it may take 2–3 days for complete recovery in many areas.
As per the PHE Department, water supply issues were reported in about 50 locations. Kolasib’s pumping station, Keitum’s solar pumps, and several pumps in Hnahthial were submerged due to heavy flooding. Multiple pipeline damages were also reported.
The Supply Department reported that they have already stocked sufficient monsoon supplies in vulnerable areas and are prepared to respond to any eventualities.
All Deputy Commissioners submitted detailed reports on their respective districts’ situation. These updates will continue to be compiled and reviewed.
The meeting was also attended by Home Minister Pu K. Sapdanga, PWD Minister Pu Vanlalhlana, DM&R Minister Prof. Lalnilawma, P&E Minister Pu F. Rodingliana, and other key government officials.
