Three Persons Rescued From Collapsed Buildings; Clearance Operations Underway In Lawngtlai District
Lawngtlai : Following a heavy downpour, six buildings and one Assam-type house collapsed in the Chandmary and Bazar areas of Lawngtlai at approximately 10:45 PM on 30th May 2025. Deputy Commissioner Shri Cheemala Siva Gopal Reddy, IAS, immediately arrived at the site and, in coordination with the Central Young Lai Association (CYLA), led prompt evacuation operations.
The rescue operation was spearheaded by personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) 3rd IR Battalion, Thingkah; Mizoram Police; Assam Rifles; Quick Response Teams from the District Disaster Management & Rehabilitation Department; and CYLA volunteers. Three individuals were trapped under the debris. Two of them were safely rescued on the morning of 31st May, while the third person was successfully rescued at around 7:50 PM the same evening. All three were promptly taken to the District Civil Hospital for medical treatment.
As the collapsed buildings had blocked National Highway NH-2, debris clearance operations are currently underway and will continue as required. The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner and DDMA Chairperson Shri Cheemala Siva Gopal Reddy, is closely supervising the ongoing clearance efforts.
With further rainfall predicted over the next seven days, the District Emergency Operation Center (DEOC) has been activated. Quick Response Teams from the Disaster Management & Rehabilitation Department and the SDRF 3rd IR Battalion are on high alert and prepared to respond to any emergency situations.
