Campaign Against Single-Use Plastic in the Ministry on World Environment Day; Environment Minister Pankaja Munde Leads Initiative to Curb Plastic Waste

Mumbai : On the occasion of World Environment Day, June 5, all officers and staff in the ministry will dispose of their single-use plastics and take a pledge not to use plastic. Environment and Climate Change Minister Pankaja Munde will preside over the event, during which cloth bags will be distributed.

Every year, World Environment Day is observed on June 5. This year’s theme is “Ending Plastic Pollution Globally,” a concept linked to the Centre Government’s Mission LIFE. Mission LIFE promotes an eco-friendly lifestyle, which includes refusing single-use plastics and preventing plastic waste. Plastic-driven pollution poses the greatest threat to the environment. Against this backdrop, under Minister Pankaja Munde’s leadership, the state government’s Environment and Climate Change Department is rolling out various initiatives to ban single-use plastics.

The campaign will begin within the ministry itself. On the morning of June 5, cloth bags will be distributed in the Trimurti compound of the ministry as an alternative to plastic, in a ceremony led by Minister Pankaja Munde.

All officers and employees from every administrative department of the ministry will participate by collecting any single-use plastics in their offices and depositing them in the Trimurti compound. Special arrangements have been made at the collection point to accommodate items such as unused plastic folders, plastic water bottles, and plastic bags.
