As part of the “Mumbai Metropolitan Region – Creation of International Education City” initiative by the Maharashtra Government, CIDCO has taken the lead in establishing an International Education City. This city will host campuses of globally renowned universities. Five international universities have agreed to partner and establish their campuses here. These include:
- University of York (UK)
- University of Aberdeen (UK)
- University of Western Australia (Australia)
- Illinois Institute of Technology (USA)
- Istituto Europeo di Design – IED (Europe)
The MoU signing ceremony for this historic partnership will be held on Saturday, 14 June 2025, at Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Mumbai.
The event will be graced by the presence of Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon. Union Education Minister, as the chief guest.
Also attending will be:
- Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Hon. Deputy Chief Minister, Maharashtra
- Shri Eknath Shinde, Hon. Chief Minister, Maharashtra
- Shri Ajit Pawar, Hon. Deputy Chief Minister
- Shri Chandrakant Patil, Hon. Minister of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra
The initiative is part of Maharashtra’s vision to create a global hub of education. Through CIDCO’s efforts, this International Education City will not only host foreign university campuses but also create an environment of innovation, cross-cultural learning, and global academic collaboration for Indian students.
This initiative aims to make world-class international education accessible within India. The education city will be located just 10 kilometers from the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport, making it an ideal location for global academic institutions.
This will be the first-of-its-kind International Education City in India.
The project is expected to elevate Navi Mumbai and Mumbai into global research and academic centers. It will also contribute significantly towards Maharashtra’s goal of becoming a trillion-dollar economy and playing a key role in India’s journey towards becoming a five-trillion-dollar economy by 2030.
