RPF Howrah South rescues four minor boys from human trafficking attempt

In a prompt and coordinated operation, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), of Howrah South Post, have successfully rescued four minor boys from a suspected human trafficking attempt at Howrah Railway Station on 12th June 2025. The RPF team also apprehended two suspected traffickers in connection with the incident. The RPF team had noticed four minor boys sitting suspiciously on Platform No. 21 accompanied by two adult males. Upon enquiry, the two adults were identified as (1) Saurav Majhi, Male, 20 years, resident of Purba Bardhaman and (2). Riyaz Sekh, Male, 20 years, resident of Murshidabad.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the traffickers had picked up the minors from remote areas and intended to engage them as child labourers in various parts of the country, including Mumbai and Bengaluru. On being questioned, the minors themselves admitted that they were being taken for labour work. The rescued boys were identified as Ayan Bag (M/17), Hiron Gorai (M/16), Tuhin Mondal (M/16) and Rabiul Sekh (M/16). The two accused traffickers were immediately taken into custody. The rescued minors and the arrested individuals were handed over to GRPS / Howrah. A case has been registered under Section 143(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanghita (BNS) and Section 14 of the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act.

This successful rescue operation demonstrates the unwavering commitment of Railway Protection Force’s in combatting human trafficking and safeguarding vulnerable individuals, particularly children, from exploitation. The RPF continues to maintain heightened vigilance, engage in proactive patrolling, and work closely with social organizations to prevent such crimes. Needless to mention – Eastern Railway reaffirms its zero-tolerance policy towards human trafficking and remains dedicated to ensuring the safety, dignity, and rights of every passenger, especially the most vulnerable sections of society.
