Yogi govt to empower transgender community through CM Yuva Campaign

Lucknow : The Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh is taking a transformative step to empower the transgender community by making them self-reliant and integrated into the mainstream of society. In a landmark decision, transgenders will now be linked to the Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Vikas Abhiyan, through which they will receive skill-based training and financial assistance in the form of loans to pursue self-employment.

This visionary initiative aims not only to uplift the transgender community economically but also to restore their dignity and rightful place in society. Social Welfare Minister Asim Arun has directed officials to ensure that transgender individuals are connected to relevant government schemes in every district. As a starting point, each district will aim to employ at least two transgender individuals, thereby transforming the effort into a people’s movement for inclusive development.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s ambitious Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Vikas Abhiyan has already emerged as a game-changer for the youth of Uttar Pradesh, enabling them to establish businesses and create employment opportunities. Now, this impactful campaign is being expanded to include the transgender community, providing them with equal opportunities to thrive.
One shining example of this initiative is Garima Griha in Gorakhpur—a centre dedicated to the education, training, and rehabilitation of transgender individuals. Operated under the guidance of the Social Welfare Department, Garima Griha is more than just a shelter; it is a hub of empowerment. Eight transgender individuals have already been trained and employed at this centre, which is now being upgraded with modern amenities, including CCTV surveillance, biometric attendance systems, and facial recognition technology, to ensure security and transparency.

Under the Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Vikas Abhiyan, transgender individuals will also be encouraged to start their ventures with access to bank loans and guidance. Additionally, Governor Anandiben Patel has recently instructed officials to establish 100 dedicated welfare centers for the transgender community across the state. These centres will serve as bridges to connect transgender individuals with education, digital literacy, culinary arts, tailoring, computer training, beauty services, and more—paving the way for holistic development.

In line with this commitment, the government is ensuring that transgender individuals receive access to essential welfare schemes, including the Ration Card, Ayushman Bharat Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and pension benefits. To facilitate this, a separate survey of the transgender population is being planned to identify and eliminate any gaps in service delivery. Various departments have also been directed to run targeted awareness campaigns.

With this multi-pronged approach, Uttar Pradesh is on track to become a national model for transgender welfare, offering not just support but true empowerment, dignity, and respect to a long-marginalized community.
