Citizens Should Embrace the Values of the Constitution’s Preamble – CM Devendra Fadnavis
Inauguration of Constitution Preamble Park and Statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar
Nagpur: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasized the need for every citizen to internalize the values enshrined in the Preamble of the Indian Constitution, stating, “If we live by these values, 90% of the country’s problems will be resolved.” Speaking at the inauguration of the Constitution Preamble Park and the life-size statue of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar at the Ambedkar School of Law, Nagpur University, he noted that this park is a significant step toward preserving Ambedkar’s legacy.
The event was graced by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Revenue Minister and Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat, Minister of State for Law and Justice Adv. Ashish Jaiswal, and several other dignitaries.
Fadnavis highlighted the special importance of unveiling the park during the Constitution’s Amrit Mahotsav year. He affirmed that the Constitution guarantees fundamental rights, freedom of expression, equality, and justice, and it is this democratic framework that has enabled India to emerge as the world’s fourth-largest economy. He also announced that the Ambedkar Law College would receive a new building and the park would be equipped with all necessary facilities.
CJI Bhushan Gavai, who hails from Nagpur, expressed pride in inaugurating the park on his first visit to the city after assuming office. He reflected on Ambedkar’s historic Dhamma Diksha in Nagpur and noted how Constitution Square at Zero Mile and now the Preamble Park symbolize the city’s commitment to Ambedkar’s ideals. He praised the murals and installations at the park as inspirational and educational.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, an alumnus of Nagpur University, lauded the initiative, saying it brings constitutional values closer to students and citizens. He announced a ₹1 crore grant for the university’s e-library.
Earlier, Chief Justice Gavai was felicitated, along with distinguished alumni including Gadkari, Fadnavis, Justice Nitin Sambre, and others.
About the Constitution Preamble Park:
At its center stands a statue of Dr. Ambedkar holding the Constitution. Murals depict ten core constitutional values: We the People, Socialism, Secularism, Democracy, Republic, Justice, Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity. The park also features miniature replicas of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Parliament House, Supreme Court, and the Ashoka Pillar. Spread over 2 acres, the park was constructed at a cost of ₹9.5 crore and includes a grand entrance gate.
The initiative is expected to inspire generations to uphold and live by the constitutional values envisioned by Dr. Ambedkar.
