Nano DAP: A Smart Alternative to Traditional DAP Fertilizer for Farmers

Raipur : The Chhattisgarh government is actively working to ensure the uninterrupted supply of chemical fertilizers to farmers. In view of the anticipated shortage of DAP (Di-Ammonium Phosphate) during the Kharif 2025 season, the state government has made special arrangements for the storage and distribution of Nano DAP as a practical alternative. Additionally, large quantities of other fertilizers like NPK and SSP have been stocked beyond their targets.

To address the shortfall of solid DAP in agriculture, farmers are being advised—based on expert recommendations from agricultural scientists—to use Nano DAP or equivalent quantities of NPK and Single Super Phosphate (SSP) fertilizers.

What is Nano DAP?
Nano DAP is a modern, cost-effective, and efficient liquid fertilizer. Compared to traditional DAP, it is more nutrient-rich and beneficial. According to scientists at Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur, the use of Nano DAP helps reduce input costs and effectively supplements the soil’s nutritional requirements. It also enhances crop quality and is environmentally safe.

Typically, one acre of paddy cultivation requires one bag of solid DAP costing around ₹1,350. However, using a mix of 25 kg solid DAP and 500 ml Nano DAP brings down the cost to about ₹1,275 per acre—offering better value.

Recommended Usage by Scientists:
For one acre of paddy farming, around 650 ml of Nano DAP is sufficient. Before sowing, 150 ml of Nano DAP should be dissolved in 3 litres of water and used to treat 30 kg of seeds. After soaking for 30 minutes and drying in the shade, seeds are ready for planting.

During transplanting, 250 ml of Nano DAP mixed in 50 litres of water should be used to soak the roots of saplings (known as tharha) for 30 minutes before transplantation. After 30 days of sowing or transplanting, a foliar spray of 250 ml Nano DAP mixed in 125 litres of water should be applied to standing crops. This ensures direct nutrient absorption by the plants.

Advantages of Nano DAP:

  • Provides essential nutrients efficiently
  • Requires less quantity than traditional DAP
  • More affordable in the long run
  • Quick absorption when sprayed on leaves
  • Environmentally friendly

In line with the directives of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, the state government has ensured ample storage of Nano DAP and alternative fertilizers in cooperative societies. The Agriculture Department is also conducting training and awareness camps to educate farmers on the benefits and proper use of Nano DAP, NPK, and SSP fertilizers.

Farmers are strongly encouraged to adopt these smart alternatives for sustainable and cost-effective farming.
