Buddhist Tradition Deeply Rooted in Chhattisgarh: CM Vishnu Deo Sai

Unveiling of Lord Buddha’s Statue in Mainpat Marks a Symbol of Peace and Inclusive Culture

Raipur : Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai unveiled a grand statue of Lord Buddha today at the Hotel Ground complex in Mainpat, Sarguja district. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Minister emphasized that the roots of Buddhist tradition run deep in Chhattisgarh, and that the state government is committed to walking the path of development by embodying the message of love, peace, and compassion taught by Lord Buddha.

He paid floral tribute to the statue and offered prayers for the happiness, prosperity, and peace of the people of the state.

Expressing gratitude to the Tibetan community for their warm invitation and heartfelt welcome, CM Sai said Chhattisgarh is home to several sites where Lord Buddha is revered. He specifically mentioned Sirpur, where Buddhist, Jain, and Sanatan traditions coexist—a powerful symbol of the state’s inclusive cultural identity.

Recalling the 90th birth anniversary of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, CM Sai described the spiritual leader as a living embodiment of Buddha’s values of compassion and peace. He noted that leaders across the world, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have extended greetings to the Dalai Lama, underlining the global relevance of Buddha’s teachings.

The Chief Minister praised Mainpat for its natural beauty and cultural diversity, calling it a unique destination with immense potential for tourism. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to the comprehensive development of the region and noted that the new industrial policy of the state places special emphasis on tourism. Special incentives will be given to those establishing homestay facilities in areas like Mainpat.

In response to the demands of the Tibetan Cooperative Society, CM Sai announced:

  • ₹10 lakh for the construction of a CC road from Saila Resort to the Buddhist temple
  • ₹20 lakh for building a shed at the ancient Buddhist temple

He also participated in a tree plantation drive as part of the program.

The event witnessed a traditional Tibetan welcome, and the joyful atmosphere was enhanced as locals carrying the Indian national flag warmly greeted the Chief Minister.

Notable attendees included Sarguja MP Shri Chintamani Maharaj, Sitapur MLA Shri Ramkumar Toppo, Collector Shri Vilas Bhonskar, Settlement Officer Ms. Swang Yangso, Tibetan Cooperative Society President Shri Tamding Sering, Monastery Head Lama Dubje, Lama Jinpa, and numerous members of the Tibetan community.
