Home Minister Inspects Activities Of The Fire & Emergency Services Department

Aizawl : Home Minister Pu K. Sapdanga today chaired an inspection and review session of the Fire & Emergency Services (F&ES) Department held at the F&ES Conference Hall, Hunthar. The Minister was welcomed by officials of the department who also demonstrated the equipment and gear used in their operations.

Pu K. Sapdanga commended the department’s dedicated efforts in handling emergencies and disasters, stating that their role is crucial in safeguarding lives and property. He stressed the need for continuous preparedness, given the unpredictable nature of emergencies, and noted that the department must be equipped and ready at all times. He urged personnel to maintain strong community ties and uphold their responsibilities with commitment and courage.

Home Secretary Pu Vanlalmawia also addressed the gathering, stating that the F&ES Department operates under high-risk conditions, especially in the face of evolving government frameworks and growing global challenges. He emphasized the need for a multidisciplinary, multi-hazard response force, capable of adapting to diverse disaster situations.

During the inspection, F&ES Director Pu C. Lalruaia gave a detailed PowerPoint presentation outlining the department’s functions, operational procedures, achievements, and its capacity as a multi-hazard response force. He also highlighted the department’s coordination with Home Guards and Civil Defence.

Following the presentation, an interactive discussion session was held. Home Department Joint Secretary (P), Pu PC Lalduhthlanga, gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the department.

Currently, the Fire & Emergency Services Department operates 14 fire stations, equipped with 47 fire tenders and 4 fire response motorcycles. Procurement of firefighting gear and equipment is underway under 15th Finance Commission Grant-in-Aid Phase-I, as outlined during the review.
