CM Yogi gifts KGMU 500-bed Trauma-2 Centre to boost emergency care

Lucknow : To strengthen emergency medical services in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath laid the foundation stone of a second trauma centre at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) on Monday. The new Trauma Centre-2 will be a seven-storey building, equipped with modern facilities, and is expected to be completed in two years at an estimated cost of Rs 273 crore. Once operational, it will offer an additional 500 trauma care beds, significantly expanding KGMU’s capacity to handle critical patients.

Currently, due to limited capacity at the existing trauma centre, patients often receive initial care on stretchers. With the addition of Trauma-2, patients will have access to modern, fully-equipped beds, enabling quick and effective treatment. The facility will include nine operation theatres (OTs), a sewage treatment plant (STP), an effluent treatment plant (ETP), a firefighting system, and fire alarm infrastructure.

To ensure ease and comfort for the patient attendants, a Patient Utility Complex will also be built within the centre. It will feature a waiting area, kitchen, dining space, and a café, offering a comfortable environment and essential amenities for those accompanying patients. Additionally, a dedicated parking facility with space for over 250 vehicles will also be developed.

The new Trauma-2 Centre will be a Category-1 level emergency facility for the state, equipped to treat patients with severe injuries from road accidents, natural disasters, and industrial mishaps. This expansion will transform KGMU into a more advanced, frontline trauma care institution capable of handling critical emergencies with greater efficiency.

The centre is expected to not only save countless lives, but also reduce the pressure on existing healthcare infrastructure by increasing the admission capacity for severely injured patients and enhancing the speed and quality of emergency medical care in Uttar Pradesh.
