Nine Dead, Over 60 Injured in Two Separate Road Accidents in Sindh
Passenger buses overturn near Thatta and Gambat; separate tragedy in Astor claims 26 lives with only bride surviving
At least nine people lost their lives and more than 60 others were injured in two separate road accidents in Sindh on Sunday.
In the first incident, a passenger bus overturned near the Thatta bypass, resulting in six deaths and 20 injuries. Rescue teams promptly arrived at the scene and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals. The bodies of the deceased were transported to Karachi and kept in cold storage in Orangi Town.
In a separate accident, a speeding passenger coach overturned on the national highway near Gambat in Khairpur district. The mishap killed three people and left over 40 injured, including several women and children. The injured were rushed to Gambat Hospital, where doctors reported that at least 15 of them are in critical condition.
Meanwhile, a separate tragic incident occurred in Astore, Gilgit-Baltistan, where a bus carrying wedding guests from Astor to Chakwal slipped off the Thalchi bridge and plunged into a river, killing 26 people. Shockingly, the only survivor was the bride, Malaika, who has been hospitalized.
Rescue operations in Astore are still underway, with help from locals, police, and emergency services. Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Tariq confirmed that 14 bodies have been recovered and shifted to the Astore District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital. He added that the ill-fated vehicle has been retrieved from the river.
These back-to-back incidents have raised serious concerns about road safety and speeding on highways across the country.
