Zero Poverty’s first beneficiary Ruby’s dream home taking shape in UP
Lucknow : The first beneficiary of the Yogi government’s Zero Poverty campaign, Ruby from Gosainganj, is witnessing her dream home becoming a reality. In just a few months, she will move from a small hut into a permanent house, marking a life-changing moment for her and her family.

Ruby and her husband, Ram Sagar, are overjoyed to see their long-cherished dream taking shape. They never imagined they could escape the grip of poverty, but the Yogi government has emerged as a ray of hope for families like theirs across Uttar Pradesh.
Once struggling to survive in a makeshift hut in Lucknow’s Gosainganj, Ruby now sees her permanent home being built with the state government’s support. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has prioritized ensuring that no family in Uttar Pradesh lives below the poverty line. Turning this vision into reality, the ‘Zero Poverty Campaign’ was launched on October 2 last year, and Ruby’s family became its first beneficiary.
Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh said that under the Yogi government’s Zero Poverty campaign, the construction of a permanent house for Ruby in Silauli village, Gosainganj, is progressing quickly and will be completed in the next few months. He added that special attention is being given to maintaining quality.
The Chief Secretary mentioned that he is personally monitoring the house construction and the benefits of other schemes. The change in Ruby’s life is not limited to the new house. Earlier, the Yogi government helped her husband, Ram Sagar, get a job at the well-known private company L&T, taking a major step towards self-reliance. Ram Sagar now earns over Rs 18,000 per month, which has brought financial stability to the family.
He mentioned that while Ram Sagar is now able to support his family through his hard work and skills, Ruby herself feels safer and more empowered. The aim of the Zero Poverty campaign is to identify the most vulnerable sections of society and provide them with multi-dimensional support, helping them break free from the cycle of poverty. This program ensures not just financial aid, but also support in employment, housing, education, and healthcare.
Ruby expressed her gratitude to the Yogi government, saying she never imagined that one day she would have a permanent house. “We used to live in a hut where rainwater leaked during monsoons, and in summer, the roof would burn like a hot pan. Now, the dream of living in a solid house is about to come true, and it’s all possible because of the Yogi government’s support. This has completely changed my life,” she said.
Ruby’s story not only reflects the success of the government’s scheme but also serves as an inspiration for millions of families still trapped in poverty.
Notably, the Zero Poverty campaign was announced by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on October 2, 2024. The program aims to benefit 25 lakh poor families, ensuring a guaranteed job for the head of each identified family and increasing their annual income to Rs 1.25 lakh. So far, 13.57 lakh families have been identified under the scheme. In the 2025‑26 budget, Rs 250 crore has been allocated, with a target to identify and support 10 to 25 poor families in every village.
