B. R. Singh Hospital and Rotary Club collaborated to spread awareness on Thalassemia & Maternal -Child Health.
In a significant initiative to promote preventive healthcare, B.R. Singh Hospital, Sealdah, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of New Alipore, organised a comprehensive awareness programme on Thalassemia and Maternal-Child Health today at the hospital auditorium. The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Sheelendra Pratap Singh, Additional General Manager, Eastern Railway, along with other distinguished guests, including Mr. Rajeev Saxena, Divisional Railway Manager, Sealdah. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, scouts and guides, and volunteers from St. John Ambulance.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Debashish Guha, Medical Director, B.R. Singh Hospital, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Mr. Sheelendra Pratap Singh and other dignitaries, symbolising a collective commitment to health and well-being.
In his keynote address, Mr. Sheelendra Pratap Singh reaffirmed Eastern Railway’s commitment to health promotion, disease prevention, and collaborative efforts for public welfare. Mr. Ram Bahadur Rai, Principal Chief Safety Officer, Eastern Railway, and President of the Rotary Club of New Alipore, emphasised the importance of raising awareness on maternal and child health.
Mr. Rajeev Saxena, Divisional Railway Manager, Sealdah, highlighted the proactive steps taken by Eastern Railway to enhance preventive healthcare and awareness across its network.
Delivering a thought-provoking address, Dr. Ramendu Hom Chowdhury, District Governor, Rotary Club, spoke on the urgent need for thalassemia screening, premarital counselling, and mass awareness to eliminate thalassemia, especially among the underprivileged.
Two informative and interactive sessions were conducted for the audience, which included mothers, children, nurses, scouts and guides, and St. John Ambulance volunteers.
The first session, titled “Little Step: Big Health“, was delivered by Dr. Sayantan Saha, Senior Divisional Medical Officer (In-Charge, Paediatrics), B.R. Singh Hospital.
The second session, “Mental Health in the Antenatal Period,” was conducted by Dr. Ananya Mukherjee, Divisional Medical Officer (Gynaecology & Obstetrics), B.R. Singh Hospital.
Both the sessions were highly appreciated by the audience. As a gesture of compassion, participating mothers and children were felicitated by the Rotarians with gifts and fruit packets, adding warmth to the occasion.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Mr. Gautam Dutta, Director, Rotary Club of New Alipore, marking a successful collaboration dedicated to community health and awareness.
